“Lucas asked me to remove them. He said you would want to buy the least expensive, and he wanted you to buy the one you wanted. Is this it?”

My heart pounded. “I think so, yes.” The body in the mirror was so womanly. Full and rounded, but firm.

“All right, shoes, a wrap, and a bag. I have those all picked out for you here.” I spied the sinfully seductive black heels with the signature red bottoms. “Why don’t you slip back into the robe for your hair and makeup, and I’ll have everything waiting for you in the salon.”

Oh my God, I was Cinderella. Louboutin stilettos!

“Are your ears pierced?” she asked.

I nodded, fingering a lobe. I couldn’t remember the last time I wore earrings.

“I think a pearl stud would work perfectly with this. I’ll grab a pair and leave them with your other things.” Once I was seated in the cushioned black chairs, the stylist asked me a few questions about how I usually wore my hair and then spoke with Amanda before she rushed off again like the fairy godmother she was.

After three hours under Amanda’s watchful care and a dress, hair, jewelry, and makeup, I looked in the dressing room mirror to see a woman changed. The makeup evened my skin tone and almost naturally accented my eyes and lips. My curls were tamed into a sleek updo. Smooth, rounded lines, a nipped-in waist, and the fullness of my breasts defined the image. Did I really look like this? I was hot. I had never seen myself this way. My leggings, tunics, and Chucks were comfortable, and I loved them, and I knew Lucas liked my skirts, but knowing I could look like this was nothing short of enlightening.

“Amanda, thank you. I don’t know what to say.”

“It was my pleasure, dear.” She handed me a bag. “Your other things are inside, and a few additional casual items Lucas thought you might like for the weekend. If anything doesn’t work, return them, and I’ll take care of it.” Her smile was sweet but knowing. Fairy godmother, for sure.

With a last thank you to Amanda and a wave, I went to meet Lucas. It was three-thirty on a Friday afternoon, and a couple of other men in suits sat in the bar area. Like Lucas, probably waiting for a partner to finish shopping.

I spotted him right away in a dark gray suit with a fine-gauge black turtleneck sweater. His hair was cut and shaped, though not in the severe style he once wore, and his face was shaved smooth. He held a rocks glass of brown liquor, looking totally edible.

He stood and stared a moment as I walked toward him, the spiky heels making it easy to sway my hips a little more than usual. Like most good Southern girls, I learned to walk in heels at an early age, and these Louboutins made it easy.

“Can I buy you another drink, sir?”

Lucas cleared his throat and found his voice. He glanced around the bar before he leaned close to me. “Baby, you can do anything you fucking want. You’re gorgeous. And with the way these other suits are looking at you, you’ve made me feel like the king of the world for the second time today.” My heart flipped.

He nodded at the bartender. “On my account?”

“Yes, Mr. Bakker. Enjoy your evening.”

“You too.”

A warm hand wrapped around mine, a smile on his irresistible mouth. Slowly, he rubbed a finger against his lips like he was considering something, his signal that he remembered how I tasted and was reminding me of how I felt in his bed.

Fighting the blush, I stood tall and glanced from that finger to his lust-filled eyes before meeting them with a challenge of my own. I leaned closer and softly moaned the same sound from this morning into his ear. His jaw twitched against my cheek.

Good. He liked to play teasing games. The bold new me did too.

LUCAS

My girl was gorgeous.I knew she would be. For a heartbeat, I’d worried that Jo would hold herself back from the experience, but I’d known Amanda a while, and she came highly recommended for something like this. I was glad I put my faith in them both.

Once I picked my tongue up off the floor, my hands itched to touch Jo. I could hardly wait to get her back to my apartment. The truth was, I’d wanted her since the first time she put me in my place for overstepping with her car.

She was gorgeous that day, too. The passion and fire in her eyes let me know exactly where I stood. She was tough, and she was soft. And she made incredible food. How did I get this lucky? I wasn’t asking too loudly. Like usual, I accepted my good fortune and moved on without asking too many questions of the universe.

I took the Nordstrom bag from her and pulled her close. Now that I had touched her again, I didn’t want to stop. I intended to touch her as much as possible from this moment forward.

“We’ll walk by my building on the way to Hill & Ocean. I can drop our shopping bags with the doorman, and he’ll take them to the apartment. Are you okay with walking, or should I get an Uber?”

“I’m okay. These shoes are perfect. Thank you, Lucas. For … everything. I feel like Cinderella.” She actually giggled before snapping back to her usual take-charge composure. I liked the tough side, but that giggle made me want to see the vulnerable side too. I doubt she showed it to very many.

“I wanted to do it. And let me say if Cinderella had been as fuck-hot as you, I would have been a lot more interested in our family trip to Disneyland.”
