Me:Oh, need to cancel cooking lessons again. More work shifts. I’ll swing by Monday and prep some meals for you.

Lucas:You’re busy. I can cook to avoid starvation.

Me:I need the money.

Lucas:How can I help with that?

Me:Let me come to your house and prep meals so I can bill you.

Lucas:Fine. What are my chances of seeing you soon?

Me:I’m not closing Sunday. Meet for a drink after my shift?

Lucas:Come straight here. We can shower together. If you want a drink, I’ll give you that too. [winking face emoji]

Lucas:My house smells like you. I miss your sexy body. Sunday was awesome.

Me:I had a dream about you last night.

Lucas:YES. Tell me.

Me:Or we could re-enact it. Lunch tomorrow?

Lucas:Yes!

Lucas:Wait. Shit. I can’t.

Me:I’ll have to take care of myself then.

Lucas:No, baby. You touch yourself. I want to watch.

Me:^^^Batting eyelashes. How do I deal with this throbbing?

Lucas:Where are you? I’ll come right now. In more ways than one.

Me:At Elliot. Sorry.

Lucas:Bathroom break? Spa room? I only need fifteen minutes to get you off.

Me:Ha. Try five. I’m burning up.

Lucas:Baby, I’ve been burning up.

It had beenanother week since we’d spent any real time together; since I felt the comfort of Luc’s arms around me. We texted and flirted, even met for a decidedly non-sexy lunch other than some smoking hot kisses in the parking lot, but it wasn’t enough. I missed him.

All his suggestive jokes and bold glances made the everyday stuff fun. Drying dishes or taking a walk on a rocky shore. Hearing about his consulting work and the excitement of bringing great ideas together with the money to make them happen lit his eyes in a way I wasn’t sure he noticed. He liked his work.

And he loved his family. Smiling his dimples at his mom, standing taller around his dad, complimenting Tess on her project management skills, and even praising Finn’s work in the fields after their dad’s heart attack. He liked it here too. I was choosing not to think about that one.

Whenever I talked about Lucas with my friend Annie, still back in San Jose, she told me not to overthink but enjoy. Not everyone gets this kind of romance, this kind of man, she said. Pain and hurt will always be a part of life, so we have to capitalize on the love and hot sex, she said, when we have the chance. I loved Annie, and I loved her advice.

When Emily suggested a double date to the Art Walk, and I checked my schedule to see that I was off, I was super excited, and it wasn’t about the art.

Me:Date night? Art Walk opens Wednesday. Double date with Emily and Finn. Never double-dated. Check off another high school fantasy?

Lucas:Yes! Already on it. Finn and I work together, remember? Quickie before?

Me:We can booty call after. Double date first.
