Lucas:Ok. Wear something special.

Me:Like?

Lucas:The launch party dress was sexy AF.

Me:Is the art walk dressy? I don’t think so.

Lucas:Something easy to take off when I get you alone. Sweatpants.

Me:I am not wearing sweatpants. I’ll think of something.

Lucas:Can. Not. Wait.

LUCAS

“Our first double date. Goin’well so far.” Finn lowered his voice, “Eduardo hasn’t left his empanada truck, so I think you can occasionally let Jo out of your sight.”

I flipped him off. Finn and his smug smile. Okay, I knew what it was like to have someone you wanted to protect and keep for yourself. I had teased Finn a bit about his growliness around Emily, and now I made the same sound around Jo. I could hardly bring myself to care. I was falling for her, and I didn’t even want to stop. She was perfect.

“Oh, Lucas. Can you help us get this to my car?” My neighbor, the feisty Miss Nell, stood next to a large painting. The corners were padded with wood, and it was wrapped tightly for transport.

“Sure.” I reluctantly let go of Jo and hoisted the colossal frame. “Leave it in your car. I’ll help you unload it when I get home.”

“That won’t be necessary. Natalie’s son and his family are visiting. He’ll help me unload.”

The Perry Harbor Art Walk was one of many events held during the festival, and the community center a few blocks up from the marina was packed.

Finn and Emily were looking for a piece for their house, something they bought together. I was pretending to look at art when I was really looking at Jo.

“Something catch your eye, Sweetness?” I returned and snaked my arms around her waist from behind. I buried my nose in her neck and inhaled.

“This is wonderful.” The piece, made entirely of shaped metals, hung on the wall. Different metal sheets had been hammered and textured to form a flower and a bee flying above it. It was simple yet startling how the different metal surfaces caught the light, making the flower shimmer as you walked past it.

“You want it? It isn’t sold.”

“Lucas, it’s eighteen-hundred dollars. No, I don’t want it.”

“I could—”

“No. Don’t say those words. This is not a girlfriend-level gift.”

“Maybe we could make another deal.” I waggled my eyebrows.

“Don’t even joke about that. No.” She bumped her hip against me and strolled to the next vendor. I quickly grabbed the artist’s card after memorizing the name of the piece. It was captivating and unique. Special. Like Jo.

We stopped to grab a bite from a food truck. Eduardo’s empanada line was long, so we stood around dripping sauces from some pretty awesome gyros instead. That was a mistake. Watching Jo take small bites from the wrap and lick the sauce that dripped onto her fingers was more erotic than was appropriate for this family event.

It had been a century since I watched her tip over into ecstasy. The double date was fun, but I was looking for an out.

I leaned close to her ear. “You licking your fingers … I’m like stone here.”

“Lucas,” she whispered and glanced at my crotch.

“Say the word, baby. It’s all yours.” A blush rose on her neck, below her ears, and I couldn’t wait to press my nose there, breathe her in, and feel her shiver.

We strolled the rest of the art fair, but I don’t remember one piece. I only looked at the heart-shaped curve of her ass, the bounce of her tits in that tight sweater, and the way her hair floated around her shoulders. I held her hand or skimmed my lips along her temple as often as possible. I couldn’t stop touching her.
