For a second, I thought she would back down, but a look of resolve washed over her features. She was raring for a fight today, and it was getting me worked up in more ways than one.

“I said you should consider yourself lucky that I haven’t left yet with the way you treat me. I shouldn’t be subjected to this much abuse, especially in the workplace. I would be more than happy to raise this issue with HR.”

My laughter was sharp as I raised out of my seat, still leaning in close, “I own HR. You really think they’d risk their jobs for some whiny PA?”

“Once they hear everything you’ve said to me over the years, I’m sure they’ll be able to reprimand you legally. You shouldn’t be able to get away with the way you treat people.”

My face was now just inches from hers, “I can get away with whatever I want because I own this place.”

“Well, you don’t own me,” she snapped and turned to walk away.

Before she could get any further, I had marched around my desk and reached out, catching hold of her dainty wrist in my hand. She gasped as I tugged her back. Her heel must have got caught on something as she tumbled straight into me. I caught her with one hand behind her back and the other still gripping onto her wrist. She was now pressed up against me, her own hand placed on my chest as she peered up at me in shock. Her perfect lips formed a small ‘o’, and the air was charged with electricity. As we looked into one another’s eyes, I could tell it wasn’t just me feeling the sexual tension. Her breathing deepened, and I could feel her heart beating heavily against her chest. The same chest that was now pressed against me. I couldn’t help but imagine her breasts squashed against me underneath her dress, her nipples directly pointed at me. Just the thought made me hard, and I knew that she would also realize my predicament if I didn’t do something soon.

Carefully, I removed my hand from her wrist and gently grazed my fingers up the length of her exposed arms. Her eyes widened as I made my way up to her shoulder, brushing her hair back so I could trace patterns along the curve of her neck. Then, ever so slowly, I moved my hand to the back of her head, waiting to pull her in and finally get a taste of those tantalizing lips.

The knocking on the door had us leaping back from one another. The spell was broken, and we both looked at each other with horrified looks. Smoothing down the front of my suit, I sat back down behind my desk before calling for the person to enter. Selena adjusted her own clothing as she backed away, standing as far away from me as the room would allow.

“Mr. Huntington, the blueprints for Garrison Unlimited has just come in. I was instructed to bring them straight to you.”

Even as the scared intern shakily put the tube down on my desk, I couldn’t take my eyes off of Selena. She was patiently waiting from the other side of the room, deeply breathing as though trying to calm herself down. I knew that the only solution for me at that moment was a cold shower. I didn’t realize how long I was looking at her until the intern cleared his throat, and I turned my attention to him.

“Thank you for these. I’ll review them and make notes as usual. My PA, Miss Ramirez, will call you to collect them once they’re ready. Just leave your name and extension number with her.”

It seemed that Selena breathed a sigh of relief as I excused them from the room. She gestured for the intern to follow her as she walked out. Just before she left, she cast a look over her shoulder at me. It was a mixture of hunger and fear, and I knew which way it would eventually sway would be up to me.

I checked the coast was clear before I slipped into the room.

Rows upon rows of shelving greeted me. I counted as I went along until I found the desired row and rolled back the rack. On the other side was the face I had been dying to see all morning.

“Ana!” I called as I slipped past the boxes.

She grinned as I approached, shifting her glossy black hair over her shoulder. As my best friend in the city, I couldn’t wait to tell her about my developments with Eddie, but first, I had to seal away the entrance to our corner. The archive room was sacred to us, our getaway in the midst of chaos. Huntington Designs employees only did their archiving once a year, leaving that room empty for the rest of it. That’s where we found our safe haven. What no one knew was that tucked away behind the twelfth row in the corner is a nook, and within that nook was a desk, chairs, and some old equipment that people had yet to throw away. It was our lunch meeting place.

“So, what’d you bring?” she asked, clapping her hands excitingly.

I was glad that it was my day to get lunch because I needed the cold winter air. I had walked all the way to our favorite sushi place, my mind dissecting every second of my interaction with Eddie. I still couldn’t wrap my head around it, so I was glad to have Ana there to assist me.

“Sushi,” I smiled, raising the bag before placing it on the old desk.

She started to unpack while I gazed off into the distance. Even my favorite nigiri wasn’t enough to pull me out of my stupor, and it wasn’t long before Ana realized something was wrong.

“Where’ve I lost you to?” she asked, dropping her handful of napkins.

Sighing, I turned to face her, “More like who. Edward Huntington.”

“What’s he done this time? Called you useless? Thrown something at you?”

My cheeks started to warm, “Worse. He tried to kiss me.”

“What?” Ana stood up abruptly, eyes wide, “We should go report that.”

I looked down at my hands on my lap, “Well, I would say it was mutual.”

Ana looked like her eyes were about to burst out of her head as she sat down and leaned in close to me. I managed to look up to meet her gaze, and I knew she must have had a million questions running around her head.
