“We would never even be mentioned in the same breath. Our decorations scream charm and grace, and theirs looks like the craft threw up on the front lawn.” She took his hand. “Not that I’m judging their creative expression. To each their own.”

Teague dropped down on the porch step and checked his watch. “Sit with me.”

“Okay.” She fluffed the wide skirt on her dress decorated with chicks and then dropped down on his lap. “Do you ever wonder if you’re in a dream and about to wake up?”

“Not really.” Twining her long hair in his hand, he looked down. “This life we’ve created is hard won, and I know we’ve earned every drop of happiness.”

“It feels like I’ve won the relationship lottery.” She kissed his cheek. “Especially when you wear your hoochie shorts and vacuum.”

“Babe, I do that on purpose and think of it as chore porn. Because I get extra lucky whenever you find me bent over and dusting.”

“What can I say? It’s my kink.”

Laughing, he pulled her tighter against his chest. “And I consider myself lucky.”

“As you should.”

Looking away from his favorite view in the world, Teague looked up and saw Jax’s truck head down their street. “It’s here.”

Tancy popped up and pressed her hands against her chest. “I know it’s not a Highland cow since we agreed that we’d need more space, but I do see a set of ears in the front seat.”

“Close your eyes.”

“No way.”

Before he could stop her, she skipped down the stairs. Jax slid to a stop in front of the house, and he hoped Tancy loved his surprise. He watched his buddy push open the passenger door and the addition to their family bound out of the truck.

“An Easter dog,” Tancy exclaimed loudly.

A long-legged mutt wearing a bunny headband ran toward Tancy’s open arms. Laughter filled the air as the dog wiggled excitedly. “I think they like each other.”

“Jax joined him on the lawn. “This is going down as a win.”

“Yeah, I think your right.” He gave Jax a bro hug. “Thanks for picking her up from the groomers.

“No problem.” He took a step back. “I’m gonna head out.”

“Don’t you want to hang out for a while?”

“I got a thing.”

Teague studied his friend. “Anything you want to tell me about?”

“It’s not a big deal. I’m just helping your cousin with a project.”

“I’ve got dozens. Care to be more specific?” He saw a rare smile form on Jax’s face.”

“Hayle needs help with a booth for the adoption fair she’s organized.” He took another step back. “It’s not a big deal.”

He put his hands up. “Didn’t think otherwise.”

“Okay, good luck with the dog.”

“And good luck to you,” he muttered, watching his friend give Tancy a hug before getting in his truck. He joined Tancy on the lawn. “What do you think?”

“I love her,” she replied, taking the pink leash. “Kizzy is a wonderful addition to our family.”

“Kizzy?”
