“So, what am I? You love me or some shit? You gonna treat me different? Not cheat on me?” she sasses. Fuck I wish her mouth would be used for something else right now, but it looks like we’re having this conversation.

“Let’s sit, and I’ll tell you all about my life with Megan.”

She reluctantly follows me to my living room that’s just off the kitchen. Technically, it could be the dining room, but I’ve never had a use for it before. Maybe now with Jennifer here it can be converted once we fill the house with kids.

“Sit,” I tell her, shoving her into my recliner. “We’ll go back to when I was eighteen, I started prospecting for the club at sixteen, unusual for the club, but because I was friends with Hangman it was allowed. By eighteen, I’d proven myself and was the youngest patched member in the club. My prize? Megan, she was the president’s whore. Mother to his kid.” She nods so I continue. “She was passed around, and I didn’t care, she was the first thing that was mine joining the club. I took advantage of that, and she became what I needed. Gave me condoms whenever I left home, it got to the point where she’d beg me to knock up a bitch because she wanted kids in the house. After Trevor she couldn’t have anymore. Not sure why, but she tried, she just could never get knocked up.”

Jennifer puts a hand up. “I know all this history; it’s been hashed out from the beginning. I want to know why you kept her around if you were going to stray? If you didn’t love her why not get rid of her sooner than you did?” She’s right, once she learned that Trevor, her son, was still alive she took off to parts unknown. You’d think she’d turn up somewhere, sometime but she never has. I only know she’s still alive because she sent me divorce papers.

“She was my prize. I didn’t see anything wrong with it. Plus, she kept the girls away that would try to get the title of Old Lady. She made sure they knew their place and hers. I don’t know the inner workings of her head, never did. But except for thinking her son was dead for years, she was happy with her life.”

Jennifer shakes her head in confusion. “I’ll never understand that. You do know that I won’t be happy if you stray. If I’m yours like you claim, then that’s it. I’ll be the perfect woman for you West, forever, but only if I’m treated with the same respect.”

I understand her and try as I might, I can’t confirm or deny what the future holds. Will I stray? Will I be faithful. Only time will tell. “I can’t promise you anything, but I can promise to try. I’ve never been with just one woman only, but for you, I’m willing to try. I vow it.”

“Then I’ll take it.”

With that I swoop her up in my arms and carry her to the bedroom down the hall.

Chapter seven

Jennifer

He tosses me on thebed, and I scramble to get my head straight. He said a lot but not at the same time. I’ll never understand his first marriage, but it is what it is. I can only hope that he’ll be different with me. But that’s a big ask because chances are it’s asking too much of him. And if I expect him to be faithful, I’ll just get my heart broken.

I’ve had enough broken heartedness to last me a lifetime.

“I was going to devour you tonight but instead I want to lay with you, listen to you, I want you to tell me everything.” He comes up over me giving me a kiss and flops down beside me.

This is different, I’ve never seen this side of him. It’s sweet.

“Where would you like me to start?”

“The beginning.”

Hmm, okay. “Well, I was barely ten when my parents died, they were killed by a biker.”
