‘Okay.’ Matt took a mouthful of coffee. ‘How long will she be in Greece for?’

Pause. ‘Two months.’

‘Two months?’ This was obviously news to him and he lowered his mug to the table. ‘But the wedding’s planned for June?’

‘Yeah, well, the thing is…’ Zac’s smile was a little forced. ‘Megan’s left me to arrange everything while she’s gone.’

Matt looked incredulous. ‘By yourself?’

Zac shrugged. ‘Kind of, yes.’

‘Jesus.’ Matt sat back in his seat, making it squeak. He looked too big for the chair, like it might buckle under him, but maybe that was just wishful thinking on her part. ‘That’s a bit selfish, isn’t it?’

Beth glared at him. ‘That’s my sister you’re talking about.’

‘Sorry.’ He held his hands up. ‘But don’t you think it’s strange for the bride to run off two months before her wedding?’

Absolutely, but no way was she admitting as much. Not to a man like him, who’d use it as ammunition. ‘She hasn’t run off – she’s accepted a prestigious acting job abroad. That’s hardly the same thing. It was too good an opportunity to pass up.’ If you could call remaking a low-budget version ofMamma Miaprestigious.

Matt didn’t look convinced. ‘But still.’

His self-righteous attitude irked. ‘She’s a fan ofDon’t Tell the Bride,’ Beth said defensively, even though she thought her sister’s plan was bonkers. But her opinions were private. Her loyalty was to Megan, not this idiot.

Matt frowned. ‘You’ve lost me.’

‘The TV show,’ Zac said, helpfully. ‘Where the groom is tasked with arranging the wedding as a surprise for the bride.’

Matt raised an eyebrow. ‘That’s a thing?’

Zac nodded. ‘It’s a hit show.’

Matt still didn’t look convinced. ‘And you’re okay with that? Arranging everything yourself?’

Zac looked so forlorn. Beth suspected the meeting wasn’t going quite as well as he’d hoped. Not when the parties involved had nearly come to blows. It was hardly the ideal start.

She shifted her chair, trying to move away from the heat radiating off Matt’s thigh. It wasn’t helping to cool her burning skin. She felt flustered and jumpy, and she was never normally either of those things. Then again, she’d never before experienced socialising with a man she’d just had a run-in with. It was kind of an unusual situation.

While taking a sip of tea, Beth was careful to hold on to her jacket lapels with her free hand. She didn’t want to flash any flesh. He was a man who would notice, she was sure of it.

‘There’s no way I can do it alone,’ Zac continued, his expression woeful. ‘That’s why I’ve asked you here. I was hoping that, as my best man, you’d help me.’

Matt barked a laugh. ‘What, plan the wedding?’

Zac nodded.

Matt stopped laughing. ‘Not just the stag weekend?’

Zac shook his head.

‘But the whole thing? The ceremony? The reception?’

Another tentative nod from Zac. ‘Beth’s already on board, but I was hoping you’d help me, too.’

Beth inwardly cringed. Zac hadn’t mentioned the involvement of his bloody uncle. This was not a welcome development.

Matt nodded in Beth’s direction. ‘You mean, me… and her?’

Beth frowned. ‘Herhas a name.’
