Smiling at her enthusiasm, I listen to her make plans for my baby shower. Wynonna decides her pervier ideas—like the porno—can wait until my bachelorette party.

After lunch, we head to the mall in search of lingerie. Finding stuff for them is easy, but we stop by three places before I locate a red pregnancy teddy. I get the worst giggles when I present the lingerie for their inspection.

“No way will he wait if you wear that,” Wynonna warns ominously. “Buyer beware, you’ll most definitely get porked if Nomad sees you decked out in that lacy thing.”

Laughing, I feel loopy from a weird day where my guard lowers the longer I’m around these women. When the sisters refuse to try on their outfits in front of us, I realize I’m not the only insecure one. Wynonna only pulls back the curtain enough to flash one ass cheek.

By the time I return home, I feel like I’ve matured a decade over the last few hours. I’m more comfortable in my skin. No one mocked or rejected me.

Selene and Yazmin loosened up, too, which I sense isn’t easy for them. We were all laughing on the way home, joking about us wearing our sexy outfits tonight.

Silas sees me enter the house and cocks an eyebrow, seeming suspicious of my good mood. I walk to him and press myself against his body.

“Thank you for giving me friends,” I murmur, smiling like my face is stuck in a joyful expression.

Silas’s frown shifts into a smug grin. He doesn’t care about most people, but I see how much he likes pleasing those who matter.

I hope he remains as agreeable tonight when I unleash my bait.

SILAS

The salon trip putsLandry in an aggressively affectionate mood. All evening, her lovestruck gaze follows me. I find her often lurking behind me, just waiting for my lips to taste hers. Whenever she smiles, I sense another protective layer around her heart has fallen away.

The kids are rowdy tonight. Landry doesn’t seem surprised by their inability to settle down. Rosemary, though, is exhausted.

“They’re not used to me being gone all day,” Landry explains when the older woman collapses into a chair while the smallest two fight over who is bigger.

“Me!” Brooklyn screams into Beckett’s face.

The little boy looks seconds away from bawling under the weight of her rage. Rather than crying, he hollers, “Me!” back in her face.

Beau wanders back and forth from the kitchen to the living room, calling out, “Mommy.”

Landry must respond to him a dozen times before he finally sees her in a real way. His face falls, and he starts crying.

Rather than lose her shit, Landry sits on the floor and rocks Beau. She doesn’t react to the younger ones screaming at each other. Eventually, they get bored and decide to play with trucks. Blair watches it all, seeming lost.
