“Fucking man.” My cup hits the wooden surface harder than I expect, making Kellie’s head snap up, still with a stupid grin on her face but at least she’s not in hysterics now.

“You said yes, though.”

“Yes, later. Not when we were in the office though. I made him sweat.” And I did. I left the office after that and followed me out like a sad little sheep that had lost his flock.

“Did he ask you again then?”she asks eagerly.

“Yes.” The flush rises into my cheeks as I remember his second proposal.

“Tell me.” she demands, her laughter now gone and she’s all ears.

“In the limo, during sex.” I admit, looking a little sheepish.

Her mouth drops. “I don’t know whether to say you’re a dirty bitch or a just a lucky bitch. Fuck, now I’m jealous.”

“He’s exhausting.” I tell her, blowing out a breath.

“He’s fucking gorgeous. I’d welcome someone like him to exhaust me.” She admits looking dreamily.

“Please. I just want a simple life.” I drain the coffee from my cup and place the cup down again sighing. “Come on, otherwise I’ll still be in my scruffs when Adam turns up for our meeting.” She jumps up and I slip from off the desk and follow her. “We should’ve hired cleaners.”

CHAPTERTHIRTY-TWO

TROY

“Where are you taking me?” Emily asks from the passenger seat of my Aston Martin. I reach across and take her hand, softly encasing it in mine, lifting it up to press my lips to her fingers and smiling.

“It’s a surprise.”

“A surprise? You mean to tell me you’ve put your brain in gear and thought about something?” she smirks. I love her humour and the way she sees right through me.

“I always try and think about things but where you’re concerned, but I seem to lose all rational thinking.” I admit, rolling my eyes back on the road ahead.

From the corner of my eye, I see here head tilt to the side as she regards me lovingly. “That almost sounded a little romantic.”

“That was romantic? You haven’t got your sights set very high, angel.” I chuckle.

She joins our fingers sighing. “If you must know, I have my sights very high. I’m with you, aren’t I?”

Looking across my face breaks into a grin. She really didn’t have a choice if I’m honest. If she hadn’t accepted my six-month bullshit proposal, I would have found another way. That was the easiest. Emily has always loved a challenge.

Her blonde ponytail swishes around as she turns her head towards the window, but keeps her hand in mine, until I change gear anyway. The beautiful countryside is peaceful, flocks of sheep and herds of cow’s scatter in the fields as we pass by. “This is what I love about the countryside. And the British countryside is the best.” Emily states, her voice soothing.

“It also stinks.” I add. Her head snaps back.

“Really? It’s nature.” She squeezes my hand. I obviously broke the moment.

“And it stinks, but yes it’s beautiful.”

“You know what I’d love?” She glances back to the window before setting her gaze back on me.

“What’s that?”

“I know Dad’s house is in the countryside but, I’d love something for us.” I frown.

“That’s your home.” I fire back.

“If we’re going to get into that it’s actually your house. Dad didn’t think I was adult enough to be left my childhood home, but you know I’m over it.” She shrugs with her hands held up in front of her, making my eyes roll.
