For all I know, this is some kind of big joke.

Maybe someone is fucking with me.

To get back at me.

To get back at Fay.

Maybe I’ll step out of the SUV and everyone will look at me and laugh.

They won’t know who I am, but they’ll know I have nothing to do with organized crime.

The closest thing to crime I’ve ever come is flirting with Marty a little too much to get him to give me some pills, knowing I’d never pay him back. Leaving him to foot the bill with the guys above him.

For some reason, in my mind I picture the college being some haunted Victorian-looking castle. Like the ones in fantasy stories. With witches on brooms swirling around the tops and a large bridge with a moat and some alligators waiting to eat anyone who falls in.

I’m wrong.

It’s a college.

It looks like any other college in the country.

I know that because I toured a few colleges a couple years ago.

I was forced to.

Fay and I went for fun.

We walked campuses, then when it came time to hear about how much it cost, Fay and I laughed and left.

She drove me back to her place where I held back, wanting to scream and cry.

Then she’d order pizza, we’d get high, and sleep it all off.

But here I am.

The Dark Sinners College.

There are large buildings everywhere.

Each with a name, a date and a purpose.

I assume I’ll learn about these buildings soon enough.

The SUV comes to a stop in a line of SUVs.

“Time to get out,” the driver says.

“Do I have to give you any money?” I ask.

“Do you have any money to give me?”

“No.”

“Then I guess you don’t have to give me any money.”

I open the door myself and climb out.

My bag hanging off my shoulder.
