“Well, if there has been, Tahg will let you know,” Birdie says. “Until then, let’s hang out.”

“And take everything seriously,” Maz says.

“So, the guy who said he was going to kill me…?” I ask.

Maz and Birdie look at each other again.

They know something I don’t.

And honestly…

“Fuck this,” I say. “I don’t trust you two. Just like those other two. You know something. You want to hide it? Fuck you then. I might not be rich, and I might not be some mafia kid or whatever, but I come from a real shit place. I know how to survive. I know how to fight. I don’t need Mommy and Daddy’s money to get by.”

I throw up a peace sign with my left hand and my middle finger on my right hand.

I turn around and walk backwards away from Maz and Birdie.

Who am I to just jump right in and trust them, right?

That’s not who I am.

I don’t care how nice they are to me.

They know something about-

I feel like I just walked into a wall.

But it’s not a wall.

It’s a person.

My bag falls to the ground and I slowly turn.

I figure it’s the guy who wants to kill me.

But when I turn, it’s someone else.

Someone…

Oh… wow…

I’m staring up at a guy with blond hair and blue eyes.

His hair it a little bit long, kind of pushed back, one piece that doesn’t want to stay back. I have the insane urge to reach up and touch his hair.

And then his eyes…

I mean, those eyes are so blue and yet somehow so dangerous.

I tingle.

That’s the word.

I tingle.

Everywhere.

As I stare up at this beautiful guy.
