We both start to laugh.

Then after a few seconds, we both look at each other at the same time.

And we both have the exact same thought.

Where the hell did Birdie go?

Maz and I hurry out back.

There are people in the pool.

Some clothed.

Some naked.

There’s steam coming from the water now, telling me that there’s a heater.

“She’s got to be upstairs with someone,” I say. “That was her whole goal, right?”

“Yeah, it was,” Maz says. “She usually tells me first though. Just so I know. And in case I need to save her.”

“Save her from what?”

“Bad sex,” Maz says. “Or a clinger. Dudes who finish and then want to cuddle.”

“Oh. Right.”

We look around one more time and head back inside.

Cullen sees me and I wave him over.

“What’s wrong, love?” he asks.

“We can’t find Birdie,” I say. “She’s probably hooking up, but we’re not sure. She was also kind of really drunk.”

“Shit,” Cullen says. “Okay, we’ll keep an eye out for her. We should check the bedrooms.”

“I don’t want to barge in on her,” I say.

“No big deal,” Maz says. “Worst case you see a littleBirdie booty.”

I laugh and snort.

Cullen rounds up Ronan and Laz, plus Quinn.

Maz and I start downstairs.

We walk from room to room, working through the drunk crowd.

It’s kind of weird pushing through slutty costumes and dudes who try way too hard.

Vampires and ghosts and monsters.

We look through the entire downstairs.

No Birdie.

Now we have no choice but to check the guest bedrooms downstairs.
