He’s on his phone.

When he sees me, he ends the call.

He rubs his jaw.

I hurry toward him.

He hugs me.

Laz walks right by us and goes into the house without saying a word still.

“How is she?” Cullen asks.

“About what you’d expect,” I say. “One second she feels okay, the next second she’s trying to blame herself. And somewhere inside her she knows it could have been much worse. But that doesn’t take away what happened.”

“No, it doesn’t,” Cullen says. “Come on…”

He guides me into the house.

We walk through the house and go out back.

There’s a table there with theHeirswaiting.

Ronan.

Mattia.

Gabriele.

Laz.

There are three more seats.

I assume one is for Cullen and the other for me.

The extra empty seat…

It has to be for Archer.

I wonder for a moment what the dynamic would be like if Archer was here.

Destined to be anHeir, Archer chooses to be aSavagefor the sake of finding out who killed his uncle.

Which apparently was done by my uncle, right? Except I have no idea who my uncle is…

Cullen walks to the head of the table and pulls the chair out.

I start to walk, figuring I’m supposed to sit next to Laz.

That’s when Cullen grabs my hand.

I look at him.

He shakes his head.

“No, love,” he whispers. “This is yours.”

“What?” I ask.
