“Jaci, just listen,” Birdie snaps. She pushes her glasses back up her face. “I want this asshole to die. I want to kill him myself!”
Maz and I look at each other.
“Yeah,” Birdie says. “I don’t think I can do it though. But I just…”
“Hey,” Maz says. “You’re feeling something.”
“I’m feeling a lot,” Birdie says. She looks at me. “You don’t have to do this for me. I’m just aThorn.”
“You’re myThorn,” I say with a smile.
Birdie smiles back.
“There’s that smile,” Maz says. “Hey, remember when Fern glued the neon-blue dildo to this statue?”
Birdie snorts with laughter.
“What?” I ask.
“Fern is a badass,” Maz says. “She glued it and everyone was dying laughing. Then along comes Dean Tahg and what does he do?”
“I’ll tell it,” Birdie says. She’s laughing now. “Dean Tahg grabs the dildo and just starts pulling at it. Not realizing at first that it’s glued to the statute.”
“So he was jerking off the statue?” I ask.
“Exactly,” Maz says. “We all got in trouble for that though. He made everyone delete all pictures and videos.”
“Rumor has it, Brigid got the dildo off with some solvent stuff,” Birdie says. “And she kept the dildo for herself!”
“That’s gross,” I say.
“Hey,” Maz whispers. “I still have a video of it.”
“No, you don’t,” Birdie says.
“I’m mafia born,” Maz says. “I know how to hide things and keep multiple sets of records. I’ve been saving this for a moment like this. We all need a good laugh.”
“So I get to watch Dean Tahg try to wrestle a neon dildo off a statue?” I ask.
“How much do you love us now?” Birdie asks.
I smile.“I can’t wait to fucking see this!”

The neon dildo video is hilarious.
It’s good to see Birdie laughing a little.
But she grows somber again.
I can’t just sit around the dorm and wait either.
So I text Cullen and tell him to meet me where I gave my speech.
I throw on my favorite zip-up hoodie, put the hood up and leave the dorm.
