“Then just tell me everything. Or are you afraid of Archer?”
I only say that to get a reaction out of Cullen.
I want him to feel something like I feel.
Cullen doesn’t react like Archer would.
He doesn’t jump at me. He doesn’t grab me.
Instead, Cullen inches toward me.
He puts his helmet down on the ground and then he touches my face.
His hand against my cheeks.
I grab his wrists.
“Listen to me, love,” Cullen whispers. “I’m not afraid of anyone or anything. Being anHeirisn’t easy. We’re being led to takeover organizations that not many could understand. We’re being led to takeover a family’s entire history. That includes you. You don’t know what your family history is yet. You will when the time comes. I promise you that. You’re not going to like what I have to say next, Jaci. You will never find out about your family while you’re still holding on to where you came from.”
Cullen leans in and he kisses my forehead.
He backs away and touches my hands.
“You know where I’ll be when you need me, love,” he says.
And that’s how smooth and sexy Cullen is.
He doesn’t need to demand for me to come with him toMakson Ridge.
He doesn’t command or control.
But he knows I’ll be there soon enough.
My knees wobble a little.
Then they wobble a little more as I watch him put the motorcycle helmet on, covering his entire head and face, and then he gets on his street ride and takes off.
The engine screaming off in the distance until its gone and just lingering in my memory.
I walk back into the dorm and when I see Maz, I swallow hard. “I need a drink.”
“What’s going on with you?” Maz asks.
“Heirshit,” I say.
Maz disappears into her room for a few seconds before bringing me something to drink.
I look around. “Where’s Birdie?”
“Showering,” Maz says.
“How is she doing today?”
“She’s Birdie,” Maz says with a grin. “You know how that goes.”
