Cullen sucks in a deep breath. “I can be your second right now, Jaci.”

“I know,” I say.

Cullen slides his hands from my face and steps back.

He turns, leaving me a clear path down the hallway so I can leave the house.

I don’t run, even though I want to.

I start to walk but pause.

I look up at Cullen and nod.

He doesn’t react at all.

He’s tall, beautiful, and stoic.

“I know,” I whisper. “I know you’ve done the same, Cullen. This isn’t about who is bigger or stronger or meaner or even more dangerous. It’s about my heart.”

“I care for your heart, Jaci Ruby.”

I touch Cullen’s chest. “I care for yours too.”

I can’t believe what I’m doing right now.

Never in my life has a guy like Cullen paid attention to me.

I grew up in Fay’s shitty house. Never knowing if I had a meal coming my way or not. Never knowing if the water would turn on, if the water would be hot, or even if the lights would turn on.

I wandered the streets never sure I’d get out of that place.

And here I am… not just out of that place but somewhere where I matter.

An Heir.

My real family… who has power. Real power.

My mafia family.

I’m part of it all…

Which is exactly why I need to see Archer.

He’s supposed to kill me.

He’s not supposed to be killed.

Ican’t find Archer anywhere.

My texts are ignored.

I check all the spots I had seen him in and around.

I end up going toSentral.

Savages Central.

A dangerous place, but I’m anHeir.
