Some decisions are really hard to make and come with consequences…

“Take me toMakson Ridge,” I whisper.

“Figured that,” Maz says. “I’ll drop you off and head back to the dorm. I’ll make sure Birdie is okay.”

I nod. “Thank you for that. At the very least I need to know she’ll get through this.”

“Don’t put that pressure on yourself. Or her.”

“Then where do I put the pressure, Maz?”

“You just don’t,” she says. “I’ll stop talking now.”

Maz takes me right to the house.

I climb out of her SUV with nothing more than a quick glare.

She has to understand all I’m feeling right now.

And right now I just want to feel safe and protected.

I want to be in the arms of Cullen.

I rush to the door and open it.

No need to knock.

I’m a fucking Heir. This is my house too.

I shut the door behind me and look to my left.

I see Ronan and Laz.

They look somber.

“Can I get you anything, Jaci?” Laz asks.

“Where’s Cullen?” I ask.

“Sitting in your room,” Ronan says.

I dart for the stairs.

I take them two at a time.

When I throw the bedroom door open, there’s Cullen.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, holding a guitar.

His thumb gently running along the strings, hitting the open notes.

“You’re back,” he whispers.

“You knew I’d be back,” I say.

Cullen nods.

“You knew what was going on,” I say. “You wanted me to stay here. To let it all play out.”
