“So…”

“He’s hell bent on this, Jaci,” Birdie says. “He’s going to find out who killed his uncle and kill that person.”

“Then what does he want with me?” I ask. “I have no idea who he is. Or who his family is. I’m a nothing and a nobody to him.”

Both Maz and Birdie reach for me.

“We don’t know,” Birdie whispers.

“Unless he knows more than we do,” Maz says.

“About my life?” I scoff. “And, come on, this wholeI’ll fucking kill youthing? The chasing me with a knife? That’s not real. Right? I mean, he wouldn’t actually kill me, would he?”

Maz touches the vodka bottle and makes me lift it.

I take another sip.

“I think we should sleep in here tonight,” Birdie says. “Just crash and try to get some sleep.”

Next thing I know Maz and Birdie are throwing blankets and pillows around the room, making a large bed on the floor.

And I’m going to sleep in between them.

At the last second, Maz opens her nightstand drawer and takes something out.

“You might need this,” she whispers.

“Is that a vibrator?” I ask. “If so, you shouldn’t share that with other people. And I am not touching myself while you and Birdie are in the same room.”

“It’s not a vibrator,” Maz says. “It’s myzap-zap.”

She hands me a stun gun.

My eyes go wide.

I look at her again and she frowns and nods.

“This is for Archer?” I ask.

“Good luck,” Maz says.

So, this guy is supposed to be anHeir, but he chooses to be aSavagebecause he wants to avenge the murder of his uncle.

And I’m somehow involved because he wants to kill me.

This…

This is just fucking wonderful, isn’t it?
