There’s trash in the water. There are dead bodies in the water. There are huge tree branches and logs.

There are pieces of Fay’s house in the water.

It’s rushing so fast.

Brie, Kae, and Marty call out my name, begging for me to help them.

I look down and see a large branch next to me.

Maybe I can have them grab the branch before they’re swept away for good.

When I reach down and pick up the branch, it’s no longer a branch.

It’s a gun.

A shotgun.

I pointed it right at Marty.

I pump the gun and it makes that clichéchick-chicksound.

“Sorry, bro,” I whisper to Marty.

I pull the trigger and-

“Rise and shine,Thorn,” a voice says.

I gasp, open my eyes and scream.

Birdie looks into my eyes and screams back.

A second later Maz appears.

A knife in her right hand.

“Why are we screaming?” she asks.

“Jaci screamed first,” Birdie says.

“I was having a nightmare,” I say.

“Well, welcome to heaven,” Maz says. “Time to get moving here. You have economics today, right?”

“I think so,” I say. “I didn’t really memorize the schedule.”

“You’re withDead Dick,” Birdie says with a giggle.

“Who?” I ask.

“Professor Rich Mordec,” Maz says in a deep voice. “Just call himMordec.”

“Dead Dickwas my doing,” Birdie says. “Kind of from French words…”

“Just ignore her,” Maz says. “Just laugh when she calls him that.”

I look at Birdie.

I fake laugh.
