Forget about the fact that my entire life is a lie!

Right?

Who cares about that?

Then again, I always knew my life was a lie.

Fay raised me.

She’s not family to me.

She just raised me.

But if she knows…

I curl my left hand into a fist and walk in a rush, up into the dorm.

I need to clean up this cut and see if I’m good with a regular bandage or if I’m going to be asking for a golf cart ride to a doctor or nurse, or if there’s a hospital nearby for some stitches.

At least I can say truthfully I did this to myself.

It may have been Archer’s knife that cut me, but I cut myself with the knife.

And for all I know, that may have saved my life tonight.

Then again, is Archer really going to kill me?

I shiver as I walk to my dorm room door.

When I open the door, both Maz and Birdie are waiting for me.

They both look flustered.

Their faces slightly red, flushed.

I show them my hand and they both gasp.

“How?” Birdie whispers.

“Forget how,” Maz says. “This is about who. Like… who is waiting for you right now?”

Before I can even think about playing into their question game, a figure steps from the bedroom I share with Birdie.

Cullen Doyle smiles at me.

He rushes across the room when he sees my hand.

“Oh, fuck, love, what happened?” he asks.

“I cut my hand,” I say, which isn’t a lie.

“That’s really bleeding,” Birdie says.

Cullen looks at both Birdie and Maz.

“Do you two have some kind of first aid kit around here?”

Cullen’s voice is like smooth music.
