Maz and Birdie slightly tilt their heads.

They’re about ready to drool over the fact that Cullen Doyle just talked to them.

“I’m bleeding here!” I cry out.

“Oh, yeah!” Maz yells. “I’ve got something in my bedroom!”

She hurries away and Birdie goes with her.

They bump shoulders and giggle.

Now Cullen and I look at each other.

“You cut yourself?”

“That’s what happened.”

“With a knife?”

“How did you guess?” I ask.

“Jaci…”

“I’m still alive, aren’t I?”

“This is unacceptable,” Cullen says. “You’re anHeir. First off, you don’t belong here with theThorns. It’s not safe. And second, Archer has no business bothering you.”

“Well, Cullen, first off, I want to be here,” I say. “I like Maz and Birdie. I’m going to assume there’s no other girls where theHeirsare. So I’m going to stay here.”

“For tonight,” Cullen says. “I’ll make arrangements for you. Then we can handle the other situation.”

“Which one?” I ask. “The one where someone wants to kill me? Or the one where my hand is bleeding like crazy?”

Cullen just smiles at me.

I hate that his smile is kind of soothing.

I feel safe near him. Which doesn’t make much sense because I don’t know him.

Other than the fact that he’s next in line to run a mafia family.

And when I hear that word, I just think of murder.

People being killed for whatever reason.

There is nothing good about Cullen Doyle.

Even compared to Archer.

Maz and Birdie return with a first aid kit.

They hand it to Cullen.

He nods to them and they look ready to just collapse on the floor.

“Can we have privacy?” Cullen asks.

“Go into my room!” Birdie cries out. She then clears her throat. “Sorry. I share a room with Jaci. You can go in there.”
