I suddenly compare that kiss to the way Archer acts near me.

These two guys are opposites and I have a gut feeling this is going to be a bad thing.

Cullen stares at the cut. “Well, it doesn’t need any stitches.”

“Joy,” I say. “Wait. How do you know that?”

Cullen glances up at me and grins. “Do you think this is the first cut I’ve patched up?”

Now that sends a different set of chills throughout my body.

“Oh,” I say.

“Oh?” Cullen asks.

“Well, what? Do you want me to ask you to tell me about your mafia ties? Huh? Tell me all the people you’ve hurt and killed? Where are the bodies, Cullen?”

He runs his thumb across my cut and it stings. “You don’t want to know where the bodies are, love.”

His voice is still soothing, but so goddamn scary.

My knees bend a little.

I have to remind myself this isn’t some Netflix show. This isn’t some book either.

This is real life.

Cullen is part of the mafia.

So is Archer.

And apparently, I am too.

“Okay,” Cullen says. “I have to clean it up a little. It’s going to sting.”

“Do you think this is my first cut?” I ask.

“You know, Jaci, you have the perfect attitude to survive around here.”

“Let’s hope so,” I say. “Thought I wasn’t going to make it tonight.”

Cullen’s lip curls. “Yeah, well, we can’t have that happen, can we?”

“I know. Who else will you just randomly start making out with, right?”

“Did you not want me to kiss you, love?”

My teeth chatter for a second.

I feel heat flood my cheeks.

The way Cullen talks… it oozes with confidence.

And not in that cocky jock way either.

Cullen oozes power. But he doesn’t need to be loud, mean and violent.

Unless he has to…
