“He kicked it off a table, then stepped on it,” I say. “That was after two other guys showed up. Darby and Rowe.”

“Ew,” Maz says. “Savages.”

“I tried to flex my power a little but it didn’t work,” I say.

“Well, you have power, Jaci. You just don’t know how to use it yet. You need to figure out who your family is. Who you are. Then it’ll make sense. The way these families operate…” Maz swallows hard.

“What?” I ask. “You can tell me. You can trust me.”

Maz looks at me. “Some families can work together and some just plain hate each other. And when I say they hate each other, I’m talking wars that go back decades and generations.”

“Let me guess,” I say. “Cullen’s family and Archer’s family…”

“It’s bad,” Maz says. “It’s just… it would scare you if you knew everything. I don’t feel like talking about it.”

Once I’m bandaged again I walk out to the living room area of the dorm and I make Birdie stand up.

Then I hug her.

I tell her I love her.

Which is odd for me.

So many feelings are hitting me now.

Maz and Birdie.

DSCitself.

Cullen.

Archer.

And the million questions I need answers to.

Later in the day Cullen shows up.

He’s tall, beautiful and instantly soothing to my otherwise stressful feeling day.

“I didn’t see you today, love,” he says.

“I was busy.”

“Skipping class to play guitar?”

His smile makes me smile.

Behind me I can sense Maz and Birdie as they swoon.

If they stare two seconds more they’re going to need mops to wipe up the floor under them. Or better yet - maybe I can get some puppy training pads they can stand over.

Cullen looks deep into my eyes. “What’s wrong, love?”

“It’s been…”

I have to tell him about the guitar, right?

But what is he going to do about it?
