Cullen plays himself as a cool and calm protector.

But he’s in the mafia.

Just the same as Maz, Birdie…me.

I’m not sure how this all works, but I would assume there are certainjobsthat must be done.

Including killing people.

I swallow hard.

Yeah, there were fights, attacks and bad things that happened where I grew up.

Deaths happened too. But that was mostly from suicide or overdoses. (Sometimes those two combined.)

But this world.

This world is…

I stop walking.

My heart jumps into my throat.

I slowly turn my head and see the lake party is off in the distance.

I look forward again and I see Archer walking toward me.

I don’t have a chance to turn and run.

If I scream, I doubt anyone would hear.

Plus, I didn’t read what was in the envelope.

So if Archer is going to be honorable still, he can’t kill me.

Even so, I see the moonlight bounce off the blade of the knife in his right hand.

And I know no matter what happens, that knife is meant to end my life.

Chapter 24

“Hey, asshole!” I call out. “I burned it all!”

I clap my hands together, throw my head back and laugh.

I have a sudden surge of power going through me.

The drunkest part of my brain tells me I’m anHeirand that Archer is aSavage.

Which means he can’t hurt me. He can’t kill me.

Even though the knife in his hand suggests otherwise.

Archer just keeps walking closer to me.

“Did you hear me?” I ask. I step back and bump into a large rock. “Huh? I burned it! You can’t do a thing to me now!”

Archer still doesn’t stop.
