I can see it pisses him off.

Archer swings his right hand through the air and cuts the biker guarding him across the chest.

The biker screams.

The other biker looks and Cullen punches him in the face.

Both Cullen and Archer are smart enough to go for the guns.

They’re not just mafia guys who are young, look good and claim to have power.

They’re fierce. They know how to fight.

I glance at Seth, wondering if he’s going to shoot someone.

Seth just stands there and watches this all unfold.

Cullen and Archer kick the guns out of the way.

Now the fight gets crazier.

Punches being thrown…

Seth steps forward and orders the fight to stop.

Nobody is going to listen to him.

I look at Faye and realize this is my chance.

I can make this whole thing somewhat right again.

I can save Faye the way she saved me.

When I lunge for Faye she looks scared.

The poor woman is so used to violence she thinks I’m going to hurt her.

My heart breaks for Faye.

I grab her arm and pull her into the kitchen.

We run side by side beyond the kitchen to the dining room.

I pull her down to the floor.

In the living room, the fight continues.

“Faye,” I say. “Faye, look at me.”

Her eyes are… dead.

I touch her face. “Faye. You’re my hero. You saved me. You raised me.”

“I was horrible for you,” she says. “I was a bad mother. I wasn’t even a mother.”

“You kept me alive.”

“Jaci, don’t do this. Don’t get lost in this. You’re too much like your mother.”
