I smile at him, even though it doesn’t matter.

Between him, Archer… and Seth…

There are just so many fucking secrets.

Archer’s goodbye is so fucking intense.

He walks me to the dorm, then touches the dull end of his knife under my chin.

Teasing me because of what happened with us yesterday.

Then he brushes his lips to mine.

And he just vanishes.

I turn my attention to my apartment and find Maz and Birdie lounging on the couch.

They look tired. Miserable.

When they see me, they perk up a little.

Birdie adjusts her glasses. “Are you alone?”

I point at her. “Don’t even try.”

“What?”

“She’s right,” Maz says. “If you want to think about that kidnapper, use a toy.”

“She’s right,” I said to Birdie. “Stay the hell away from Seth.”

“And Cullen,” Birdie says. “And Archer…”

“Is there a problem?” I ask.

I step toward Birdie and she quickly shows me her hands.

“The pre-caffeinated vibe is shit here,” Maz says.

“So let’s go for a walk,” I say. “Get some coffee. I probably should show up to class today. Not sure what to say to Mordec.”

“Don’t worry aboutdead dick,” Birdie says. “Everyone knows how things work around here. I’m sure everyone is relieved to see you back.”

That makes my heart sink a little.

I guess when youdisappearfrom here, it means you’re dead.

I’ve defied death… right?

“Come on,” I say. “Let’s get out of here. I need caffeine.”

Maz and Birdie peel themselves off the couch and throw onDSChoodies.

We leave the dorm and look for a golf cart.

“There’s one,” Birdie says with a smirk.

Maz nudges me. “Do your thing.”
