“Some things in this life are like that,” Archer says.

“Did you two come here to say stupid stuff like that or what?” I ask.

“We came here to talk about Seth,” Cullen says.

“And to let you know that you won’t see him for a day or so,” Archer says.

“Why not?” I ask.

I hear my tone.

Loud and full of worry.

I’m giving it away that I still have feelings for Seth Vossenax.

“You wanted to be included more,” Cullen says to me. “This is us doing that.”

“I want to know who my family is,” I say. “I want to figure this all out.”

“You know what that means then,” Archer warns.

“Fuck you, Archer,” I whisper. “You want to do it? Then do it. Cut me. Kill me. Whatever. You’re butt hurt because someone in my family killed someone in your family?”

“Watch your fucking mouth, Jaci,” Archer growls. “You’re anHeir… but that doesn’t mean shit unless you know the truth.”

“He’s right, Jaci,” Cullen says.

He puts his right hand on my left hand.

I’m actually a little scared of Archer now.

“What we’re trying to tell you is this,” Cullen says. “Seth wants to become aSavage. He’s not connected. We have rules here. We have purpose. But he does come from a family of…”

“Criminals,” I say.

“That’s one way to put it,” Archer says.

“We have common enemies,” Cullen says. “We may have given Seth an assignment.”

“An assignment? What does that mean?” I ask.

“I think you know what it means, Jaci,” Archer says as he stands up.

“Great,” I say. “More vague statements.”

“That statement was clear, sweet thing,” Archer says.

“Whatever happens, just don’t worry,” Cullen says.

He stands up too.

I grab my coffee and bolt for the door.

Fuck this. Fuck them.

The coffeeshop isn’t even out of sight before I hear someone call my name.

I look back and there’s Archer.
