“10 am? Crap.”

“Why?” Bella wondered. “It’s Saturday.”

“I know, I just wanted to start early with that chemistry report.”

“You still haven’t finished that?” Bella was surprised. “It’s due Monday.”

“I know,” Eva sulked. “Why do you think I wanted to start early?”

“Okay, chemistry report aside, where were you all day yesterday?” Bella quickly switched the topic. “And when the heck did you get back? I didn’t hear you come in, but I checked at 2 am, and you weren’t in your bed.”

Eva knew that she couldn’t come up with a plausible story this quick. Also, she didn’t really want to. Lying would just lead to more lying, and she was getting sick and tired of that. It was time for the truth, and nothing but the truth.

“And, don’t give me that I can’t tell you shit either,” Bella warned her playfully.

“Fine, fine,” Eva propped herself up a little on her pillow.

She looked a mess, but she never felt better. It showed. She was gleaming, her smile had something about it which illuminated the whole room. She spread joy, pure and simple.

“And, how come you look so fresh?” Bella eyed her, suspiciously. “Oh my God! You didn’t!”

“Didn’t what?” Eva wondered what she had in mind.

“Slept with you know who again!”

“Technically, yes and no.”

“What do you mean, yes and no?” Bella’s brows knitted. “It can’t be yes and no. It can only be yes or no. You’re trying to confuse me, aren’t you?”

Eva laughed.

“No, I’m serious,” she continued. “I had to go talk to Dorian, about that whole thing with Katrina. She’s always present in my problems somehow. So, I went to talk to him, and I kinda ended up at the gardener’s place.”

“The gardener’s hut? Out of the school?”

“Yes.”

“Don’t you know she’s crazy?”

“Says who?”

“Says everyone.”

“She does look crazy, I’ll give you that. But, she’s anything but. Trust me. She told me some things which… well, I can’t share them with you. They could put us all in danger.”

“In danger?” Bella was wary. “What kind of danger?”

“The worst kind. So trust me, you’re better off not knowing anything, until the time comes. For some reason, Sebastian was there. I mean, he was there because I fell unconscious and he helped Amelie bring me to her hut.”

“How are they connected?”

“I can’t tell you that, sorry.”

“Is she selling blood, too?” It was simply in Bella’s nature to be nosy. Eva couldn’t hold it against her.

“No, nothing like that,” she assured her. “Just, believe me when I tell you that both Amelie and Sebastian are the good guys in all this.”

“I find it hard to believe that.”
