“It’s too crazy.”

“What was crazy about it?” Hyde wondered.

She loved how he always spoke calmly and confidently, firmly believing that any problem can be solved together.

“You’re my boss,” she started. “There is a child involved. Your child.”

“A child who adores you, you mean,” Hyde added.

“A child who might get hurt if I’m forced to leave because of the situation and not because I want to.”

“Why would you leave?” Hyde seemed surprised by this suggestion.

“Well…” she was a bit confused. “This won’t last forever.”

“Why wouldn’t it?” it was Jesse’s turn to interfere and ask.

“You’re purposefully making this more difficult, aren’t you?” she frowned at him.

“Actually, you’re starting from the wrong side,” Jesse explained. “You’re already thinking it won’t work. But, I’m asking you, why wouldn’t it? There is something between us, between the three of us. We’ve all sensed it. We tried to ignore it, pretend like it wasn’t there. But, look what happened. The first instance we were stripped of that polite veneer, we jumped into each other’s arms and it felt fucking good.”

Rene had to admit that Jesse was right. That was exactly what she was doing: trying not to think about how much she wanted them both. Then, it only took a few glasses of wine for her to show her true colors and surrender to the feeling.

“But… it’s wrong,” she continued, even though she sounded less and less convinced of what she was saying.

“Why?” Hyde asked her, his kind voice caressing her eardrums.

“You’re my boss, it can’t happen again.”

“What if we keep it between us?” Jesse suddenly had an idea. “We don’t tell anyone, until you’re ready. What do you think about that?”

“I don’t know…” she shook her head.

Hyde extended his arm across the table, palm up. She instinctively knew what he wanted. She gave him her hand and looked deep into his eyes. Jesse was the fun one. He was the bad boy, the one you’d go to when you wanted to go all crazy. But, Hyde was different. He was the one who knew how to make the world stop turning around just by looking at you. This was exactly how he was looking at her now.

“When I saw you the first time,” he started, “you were standing in front of my door. Face illuminated by the morning sun. Smelling like roses in the valley. Your smile more radiant than a thousand suns. You came here, wanting to become a part of my life, a part of my son’s life. The moment I saw you, I could feel an instant connection. It wasn’t only attraction, it was so much more than that. It went beyond mere looks, beyond your beautiful exterior, deep down into your heavenly soul. I knew it right then and there. I knew this would happen. I just didn’t know when.”

Rene gazed into his eyes, listening to his every word. She could feel a rush of tears coming on, touched by what he had just said. She squeezed his hand, then smiled.

“Well, after that fancy speech, how am I supposed to tell her how I feel?” Jesse snorted, ruining the romantic moment, but no one seemed to mind.

Rene burst out laughing and it was like music to their ears. Nothing else needed to be said. She could feel it in the way they laughed together, in the way their bodies fit together so perfectly.

“Are you sure this is not a breach of our contract?” Rene asked Hyde.

“Do you care?” he asked her back.

“I just don’t want Parker to be hurt,” she admitted, “I care for him so much.”

“Then that’s another reason why we should do our best to make this work,” Hyde smiled.

“OK, now that this difficult conversation is over, how about we have some breakfast and maybe then replay what happened last night?” Jesse grinned at both of them, already stuffing his mouth with blueberry pancakes.

“You’re incorrigible,” Rene laughed.

She stayed there for breakfast, only sending a quick message to Alice where she was, so she wouldn’t worry. Then, she allowed Jesse to pick her up and bring her back to the bedroom. Hyde followed, leaving the outside world behind closed doors.
