“Right.”

“Is Nico around this weekend or does he have a game?”

“No game that I know of.” She switched to the other leg.

“Does he normally go to parties like this?”

“Sometimes. When our friend groups overlap or the party is big enough it doesn’t matter.”

“I’d feel better if he was there as another pair of eyes and ears, but I’ll take you either way. If you really want to go.” She looked up at him and smiled, and it was worth any lecture he might get from Declan about taking her to a crowded party. “Now, if you put lotion on any more of your body, I’m not going to be able to control myself.”

With a teasing lift of her brow, she reached up to grip the knot of the towel between her breasts and tugged until it slipped free and fell to the floor. She didn’t get a chance to squirt more lotion into her hands before he was lifting her off her feet and carrying her into the bedroom.

He tossed her into the middle of the bed, grinning when she squeaked in surprise and covered her body with his. “When does this party start?”

“Seven,” she said, swallowing hard as his hand snaked down over her stomach, and he teased his fingers over her slit.

“Perfect,” he murmured before sliding a finger inside her and grinning when she groaned in his ear.

ChapterTwenty-Eight

Viv smoothed the brush through her hair as she blow-dried it. Normally she could let it air dry into soft waves, but her antics in bed with Aidan on wet hair had turned it into a nightmare. She was just about to give up and throw it into a messy updo when she saw him in the mirror, standing in the doorway.

His eyes raked over her, and she knew if he so much as hinted at staying home, she wouldn’t hesitate to say yes. Even if she’d already shimmied her way into this dress. A dress he seemed to like very much.

“Is that what you’re wearing?”

Giving up, she set the dryer down and reached in the top drawer for some bobby pins. “What, you don’t like it?”

“I do.” He stalked across the bathroom and took advantage of the skin she’d exposed at her neck, flicking his tongue across it. “I’m already imagining taking it off you later.”

She bit her lip and met his eyes in the mirror, a little disappointed when he stepped back instead of pushing her further. He leaned against the wall and watched her while she continued twisting her hair up off her neck and pinning it into place.

She painted her lips red because she knew he liked the color, and it was a small triumph knowing he’d be thinking about her lips all night while she’d be thinking about his hands and his tongue. Besides, she had something she wanted to tell him later, and she wanted him to be in a good mood first.

He held her hand through the house and out to the car, releasing it only to help her into the truck and reaching for it again once he was behind the wheel. The intimacy they’d established over the last few weeks had given her some interesting insights into her husband.

She liked knowing things about him he probably wasn’t even aware of himself, like the fact that he liked to hold hands and he loved to snuggle, especially while they were sleeping. The only times she didn’t wake up with his arms around her or held tightly to his side were when she woke up alone because he’d gotten up early.

She also liked knowing he’d never shared either of those things with anyone else. It felt a little hypocritical thinking about that; she’d definitely snuggled and held hands with other men, but being the only one to do those things with him felt special, uniquely theirs.

He followed her directions to Felicity’s house, a nice-sized single-family home in a good neighborhood. Felicity’s family had done about as well as her own under Giordano. They were just loyal enough to stay alive, but not so loyal as to be caught in Callahan crosshairs.

The family owned a couple of successful dry cleaners in the city. In fact, most of the surviving families had businesses that operated outside the Mafia. Something to keep them grounded so they didn’t get sucked into Giordano’s depravity.

When they parked at the curb, Viv noticed people spilling onto the front lawn, and she sighed. A rager. Of course. She should have known Felicity wouldn’t invite her to a nice, quiet evening with friends after being apart for so long. Felicity liked to see and be seen, and she forgot that not everyone felt the same sometimes.

“Still want to go in?” Aidan asked, reading her hesitation.

“Maybe just to say hi. We don’t have to stay long.”

“Nico is already here. Says it looks secure, but he’ll stay out of our way. Apparently he’s trying to get laid.”

“Since when does he have to try?”

Aidan laughed as he climbed out of the truck and rounded the hood to help her down. He turned to lead her inside, but she hung back, tugging his hand gently until he was in front of her again.

“What is it? You’ll worry yourself sick if you don’t say what’s bothering you,” he added.
