When her voicemail clicked on, he disconnected and tried Sofia instead. Nothing. Pacing the floor of Brogan's lair, he dialed again, nearly groaning with relief when she actually answered.

“Sofia, where's Viv? Is she at your parents' house right now?”

“I can say with one hundred percent certainty that wherever my sister is or isn't is none of your damn business.”

“Sofia—”

“She’s asked you to leave her alone, Aidan. Haven't you hurt her enough? Just let her move on in peace and go to h—”

“Sofia!” Aidan shouted, unable to keep the panic from his voice. “I know you hate me right now. You have every right to. But Viv might be in trouble, and I need to know where she is. I need to make sure she's safe.”

“Safe from what?" He could hear the wariness in her voice.

“The stalker.”

“But Collin is—”

“It’s not Collin. Or it's not only Collin. It’s Alex too. Please.”

“You’re sure? You have to be sure, Aidan.”

“Sofia. You know I wouldn’t lie to you about this. Whatever you think of me, I would never compromise Viv’s safety. I’d never put her in danger.”

“Oh God.” Sofia sounded terrified, and Aidan gripped his phone with white knuckles. “Aidan. She's with Alex right now. Alex said she had a...a surprise for the baby.”

He muttered a string of curses under his breath as he sprinted into the hallway and took the stairs down two at a time. He barely registered the sound of Brogan's pounding feet behind him. She was going to be okay. She had to be. He needed her to be.

“Send me the address. And Sofia? Don't stop calling her.”

ChapterThirty-Three

Viv glanced down at her phone as it buzzed in her hand again. A fifth call from Sofia. What was her sister’s problem today? Sofia knew she was coming over to see Alex. It was the first time she’d left the house in a week, and while she figured Sofia might be concerned Viv would break and go find Aidan, the incessant calling was a bit much.

Setting the phone on silent, she slipped it into her purse just as Alex came through from the kitchen carrying a tray. Her friend smiled as she set it on the coffee table.

“Have any crazy cravings yet?” Alex asked, handing Viv a glass of lemonade.

“Not yet. But I can’t get enough of berries right now. Raspberries specifically. I can eat a whole pint by myself in one sitting. Multiple times a day.” Viv rubbed a hand over her belly.

“Is it weird?”

Viv looked up. “Being pregnant?”

“With everything else going on, yeah.”

“A little.” She set her glass on the table, missing Alex’s disappointed frown. “Everything happened so fast. Getting married, falling in love with him, the baby. Part of me feels like I’m still trying to catch up.”

“It’ll take some time, but I’m sure you’ll figure out what’s best for you.”

“I’ve been going over and over what to say to him in my head.”

“Say to him?”

“About the baby. We’ll have to figure something out when it comes to dealing with the pregnancy. I don’t know if he’ll want to go to doctor’s appointments. Then there’s co-parenting…”

“You’re going to let him be in the baby’s life?” Alex set her own glass down with an angry snap. “After what he did to you?”

“Of course I am. This is his child too. Family is important to him.”
