Page 49 of Craving Their Mate

While he made the coffee, she set the table and then placed their croissants on plates. She’d purchased a brownie and a cookie for dessert. “Dinner is served.”

“How do you like your coffee?”

Just the cute way Grayson asked her made Paris smile. She felt so comfortable around this man, which she thought odd. He was, after all, a werewolf. “Black. Thanks.”

He poured each of them a cup, carried both drinks over to the table, and sat down. “I can’t remember when I’ve had a meal at someone’s house.”

“You don’t have a girlfriend in Toronto, I take it?”

“No. I work too much.”

She nodded. “I have the same problem.”

Grayson sipped his coffee. “I need to come clean about something.”

Her heart throbbed. “What’s that?”

“I’m not from Canada.”

“I thought you lived about two hours east of here.”

“I know I said that, but I’m really from Tampa, Florida.”

“Not that it matters, but why lie?” she asked.

“Because at the time I wasn’t ready to tell you I was sent up here to join Rider to take down Richard Delancey.”

She blew out a breath. “I appreciate you clearing that up. I take it your company isn’t Toronto Solutions then?”

“Close. It’s Tampa Solutions.”

“Got it.” This would be the perfect time to tell him that she hadn’t been honest with him either, but Paris wasn’t quite ready to divulge her real reason for wanting to take down Harrison Industries. “Go ahead and eat.”

“Don’t mind if I do.”

She, too, picked up her sandwich and dug in. It was just what she needed. Because she wanted to clear her headache quickly, she drank the fresh cup of coffee. There was an extra tangy taste to this bag. “What brand did you get? This tastes different.”

He looked over at the counter. “I asked for the one you wanted. It’s the light roasted stuff, right?”

“That’s right.”

“Is something wrong with it?” he asked.

“I’m sure it’s nothing. I think I’ve been working too hard.”

“Finish eating and then you can relax.”

Grayson was the best. Once they ate the croissants and the dessert, Paris cleaned up since she didn’t know when she’d be back at the house. When she stepped toward the kitchen counter, she became light-headed and had to grab it for support.

Grayson was immediately by her side. "Are you okay?'

"I'm fine."

He placed a hand on her arm, and for some reason, Paris felt compelled to swat it away. "I said I'm fine." That outburst was not like her, but she couldn’t help herself. “Won't Rider wonder where we are?”

“I’ll text him and say we’ll be back later. Come on.” This time she let him lead her over to the sofa and help her to sit.

She had overreacted. “I kind of feel funny.”
