Paris had come up to the top of Miller’s Ridge many times and had never run into anyone. Just her luck, Mr. Wonderful showed up. “Hey, Doug. What are you doing here?”

“I came up for the solitude. I didn’t expect to see anyone.”

“Me neither.” Somehow, he didn’t sound at all sincere. “This is my cousin, Mick. I wanted to show him where I work. Not that we can see much, but I hoped it would give him the lay of the land.”

Doug smiled, almost acting relieved that Paris wasn’t with another boyfriend. “It is a good spot.”

She turned to Mick. “Seen enough?”

“You’re the guide.”

With a great deal of effort, Paris smiled at Doug. “See you at work!”

“You bet.”

Trying not to act anxious, she walked over to Rider's vehicle and climbed in. Once Mick slipped into his car, she led the way down the hill. No telling when Doug would leave Miller’s Ridge. That meant she needed to find a spot to hide. It came about a mile down the road.

Paris pulled over and Mick slid in behind her. He hopped out of his vehicle and got into her car—or rather Rider’s car.

“That guy, Doug, was the one harassing some woman, wasn't he?”

“Yes. He’s basically my boss, but he gives me the creeps. I have a feeling he’s involved, or maybe even in charge of the cocaine business. That’s just a guess, but I believe he was the one who put a camera on my car. Mind you, that was after we had put one on his front bumper.”

“And he’s not removed it?” Mick asked.

“Not yet.”

“I find it hard to believe that he wouldn’t check his car for bugs every few days.”

Paris shrugged. “Not all criminals are smart.”

Mick smiled. “You got that right.”

Charley had mentioned that Mick had spent two years in jail for hacking. Since then, he’d gone straight.

Mick's phone pinged, and he checked it. "Perfect timing. I asked a man from my team to check out your man, Doug."

"He's notmyman." That would be gross.

Mick flashed her a smile and then read the report. "Interesting."

"What?"

"Tom couldn't find anything on the man prior to fifteen years ago."

"Meaning?" she asked.

"Tom didn't say why, but it's possible Doug Anderson took on a fake identity."

"Jeez. Are you thinking maybe he had to change his name because he had a criminal record?"

Mick shrugged. "That could be, but I do know he's been clean since then."

"Harrison Industries was built fifteen years ago. Is that just a coincidence?"

"Anything's possible."

“I'll text Rider and tell him where we are," she said. "They probably won’t know when the coast is clear. The men can shift, but Charley might be easy to spot.”
