Page 85 of Craving Their Mate

“What’s he doing now?” Liam asked.

“He’s opening the bookcase,” Grayson said. “There is a hidden door. I’ll be damned.”

“We need to do something.” What they could do, Rider didn’t know. It wasn’t as if the guard or anyone else would let them barge into Delancey’s office without proof of wrong doing. Even if he showed them the tape, the guard might call the boss to ask him what he should do.

“Just wait and see where he takes her. We don’t want to go one place and have him take her someplace else.” Grayson seemed a bit more level headed at the moment.

The next six minutes were the longest in Rider's life. Paris and her father were walking down a cement corridor that was poorly lit, making the quality of the image grainy. Criss-crossing the ceiling were exposed pipes and ductwork. Was it to provide clean air? He assumed the passageway ran underground.

“There’s a door,” Rider said. His mind automatically thought it might lead to the drug lab.

“It could lead to another hallway or something,” Grayson said.

Good thing his friend didn’t jump to conclusions as fast as Rider did. “Look. The tunnel dead ends.” He grunted. “I wish we could hear what they were saying."

“The button camera only came with a visual component,” Grayson explained.

When the bastard made Paris climb that ladder, it was clear he was trying to use the escape hatch. “We need to head out now and intercept him.”

“Wait a second,” Grayson said. “There’s no way they can open the hatch unless someone cleaned it off in the last few hours. When I saw it yesterday, there is too much dirt on top.”

“That’s true,” Rider said.

“Either Delancey instructed someone to keep it clean and they'd not followed through, or Delancey never thought he’d have to use his escape route. Either way, that could be his mistake. Just wait and see what happens. Once Paris is in the open, we can rescue her.”

His friend made sense, but Rider still didn’t like having to wait. This was Paris! His mate. When she was unable to push up the lid, and then Delancey failed, Rider was happy they hadn’t rushed out. “Now where will he take her?”

“Through the lab, maybe?” Alex suggested.

“That would be too good to be true. You’re recording this, right?” Rider asked.

“Yes, though it won’t be admissible in court.”

“I don’t care. There are some courts that won’t care either.” The general had a lot of contacts with those involved in the shifter legal system.

When Delancey took her to the other door, his hope rose, until it turned out to be another tunnel. “Shit.”

They eventually emerged into the underground parking garage. When he watched that brute cuff and blindfold Paris, Rider nearly lost it. “Let’s go.”

His cell rang and he nearly jumped. “Yeah?”

“It’s Connolly. The Gonzalez family is on the move.”

“Shit.” He telepathed what Connolly said.“Thoughts?”

“The tracker is active for a good hundred miles. We’ll follow Paris, but we’ll have to keep far behind so they don’t spot us. Have Connolly follow the family. I'm betting they can provide us with proof of the lab,” Grayson responded.

Rider relayed the plan.

“We’ll let you know where they go,” Connolly said.

“Thanks.” Rider disconnected.

“Ah, guys?” Liam said.

“What?” Rider’s response was too sharp, but he couldn’t help it.

“We’re getting no feed, as in no tracker and no camera signal.”
