“A little help here,”came his friend’s reply.

Since Nate was not occupied, Rider hoped he understood that he should stay there in case the man Rider had attacked recovered.

“I’ll cover this room,” Nate announced.

Good. Rider assumed Harmon would keep watch outside. He and Dante raced toward the backyard. Trax rushed upstairs, hopefully to make sure nothing happened to Paris. That’s what Rider or Grayson should have done, but he had to help his friend first.

When he and Dante reached Grayson, he was battling two wolves. Where the second one came from, he didn’t know. And where was Jay?

Since he and Dante were fresh, they attacked with strength. Working with a trained expert made taking out these two easy. No one killed either wolf in case one of them was Delancey.

When the threats seemed to be under control, Rider shifted into his human form.

The back door opened, and Jay stood there. When had he gone inside? It didn’t matter now. They’d taken care of the threat.

“All clear,” Jay said.

“Stay vigilant,” Rider told Grayson. “I’m going upstairs to get Paris.” He understood that Grayson would want to see her, too, but he had to make sure these men remained down. “You’re in charge.”

Without waiting for an answer, he ran upstairs to make sure the woman he’d fallen in love with was okay.

CHAPTERTWENTY-SIX

When Paris heardthe stone slap against the window, her hopes had soared, and then she’d nearly cried with joy when the yelps and gunshots sounded downstairs, convincing her that maybe Rider and Grayson had found her. How they knew where Delancey had taken her, she didn’t know.

Footsteps sounded on the stairs, but it wasn't Rider or Grayson. Her body would have reacted to their presence. Her cowardly father was probably coming to use her as a shield to escape.

The doorknob jiggled, but the person couldn’t get in. That meant it wasn’t him.

“Hello?” she called out.

“Paris?”

She didn’t recognize his voice. “Yes?”

“Can you open the door? Rider and Grayson are downstairs.”

Relief washed through her. It wasn't one of her father's henchmen, because her father didn't know either Rider’s or Grayson's name—unless Doug had told him, assuming he remembered.

“I can’t. I’m tied to the bed.”

A second later, the door flew open, and a large man barged in. “I’m Trax Fielding.” He waited a beat, probably to see if she knew his name.

“Hi?”

“I work with General Armand.”

All of the tension in her body whooshed out. “Thank God.”

He rushed over and managed to untie her in a few seconds. Her wrists were sore, but it was her joints that ached from being tied up for so long. He helped her sit up.

“Can you walk?”

“I think so.”

She was half way across the room when Rider charged in. At the sight of him, her legs almost gave way. Thankfully, Trax was still holding her up.

Rider closed the space between them and had her in his arms in a matter of seconds. The kiss was quick, but oh, so welcome.
