“I’ll call from the car and then send you a text to let you know when they are available.”

“Perfect.”

Once Benson left, Preston faced her. “How about I whip up some breakfast while you change?”

“Just coffee for me.”

“Ariel, you need more than coffee.”

She stepped up to him, and when she wrapped her arms around his neck, his cock instantly stood at attention. This was bad. Preston always could control himself around women, but Ariel was the exception.

He kissed her quick and patted her butt. “Fine. Just coffee. Go on and change.”

“You are a real taskmaster.” She then grinned.

That was close. Another few minutes with her in his arms, and they would have ended up in bed. Needing to keep his mind off of the sexual draw, he brewed some coffee and placed it in a mug with a lid. Just as he finished, Ariel came out wearing her rather baggy scrubs.

“Something smells good.”

He handed her the cup and then grabbed his car keys. “What are you going to tell your bosses?”

“The truth.”

“Does Beth know that you were almost run over?”

“Not yet. I had to come to grips with it myself first.”

That was a good start. Preston escorted her out to his truck, but not before checking the area for anyone lurking nearby—especially someone in a white vehicle. He would have sensed any wolves. Not that he knew for sure those after Trent were werewolves, but he put the percentages rather high that they were. If he was wrong, and the attack on Ariel was related to someone who wanted Samantha dead, he was good with that too.

The trip to town didn’t take long, but the whole time Preston was trying to figure out how much to lecture her about not leaving the clinic for any reason. He then reminded himself that he didn’t like it when people told him what he could or couldn’t do, so he kept quiet.

He pulled in front of her work. “Call me or Benson if you tire and want to go home.”

Ariel placed a hand on his leg, and he swore the heat from her touch almost seared his pants. “Stop worrying. I’m with two doctors, though neither are particularly young. Beth will be there as will Jeffrey who cleans up after the animals. He’s a brute.”

“Okay, but…never mind. I know you won’t be careless.”

She smiled. “No. I get off work at six.”

“One of us will pick you up.”

She leaned over and kissed him. Before his body showed his usual reaction to her when she touched him, Ariel slipped out of his truck. Preston didn’t move until she was safely inside.

He checked his phone to see if Benson had texted him the information about training with Alex and Liam. He had. The men were free now. Preston would have to remember to ask them not to leave any visible wounds on him since Ariel would wonder how hand-to-hand combat could cause him to bleed.

Preston contacted the gym to let Anna know that he’d be in later. To his surprise, Rob, one of trainers, answered. “Hard Body Gym.”

“This is Preston. Where’s Anna?”

“She called me at home this morning and said she was sick. I’m covering for her.”

Rob ran the desk when Anna wasn’t working. “I appreciate that. I’ll be in later today.”

“No problem. It’s quiet here.”

Poor Anna. She rarely called in sick. Thankfully, Rob was able to cover for her.

Knowing the gym was in good hands, Preston headed to Benson’s family home and found Liam and Alex inside the barn. After he finished working out with them, he wanted to ask if the men might be interested in picking up a little extra money by being Ariel’s bodyguards. Since he and Benson might not always be available to take her around. Not only that, having different men with her might confuse her stalker.
