“You won’t let me in the sex club!”

“Here we go again…”

“I don’t know what the hell I was thinking, agreeing to come to this.”

Haley laughed as she passed me to get back in the pool. Like me, she couldn’t swim, but she was brave enough to get in the three feet part—especially while Aiyden was here, offering her lessons.

“Just stick your feet in, babe,” she suggested.

With a sigh, I looked around at everyone enjoying themselves. While some were in the pool, some were gathered around the pool, conversing. The grill was going, but there was also smoke coming from fire pits and blunts. An old school mix was playing in the background, and here I was, looking good as hell in my black two piece, just letting it go to waste.

Gathering a small amount of courage, I stood and made my way over to where she was standing in the pool. Sitting on the edge of it, I placed my feet inside.

“See. That’s not so bad, is it?” Honey asked with a smile.

“Not yet,” I replied, making them both laugh.

“She finally got in?” Simone noticed, making her way back outside from the kitchen.

She handed Supreme a beer as Haley teased me with… “Barely.”

“It’s a start,” Honey replied, reminding me of why I liked her so much.

It didn’t take long before Hosea disappeared under the water and made his way over to me. Gripping the edge of the pool, I waited anxiously… waiting for him to emerge. As soon as I saw his brown frame nearing me, I smiled. He made his way between my legs, lifting from under the water like an aquatic god. Resting on my thighs, he caressed the small of my back with his thumbs.

“You really don’t know how to swim, Tink?”

My head shook. “Nope. There are a lot of things I probably should have learned as a child that I didn’t.”

Unlike his healthy relationship with his parents, my relationship with my mother was a little strained. She worked so much, I never felt truly connected to her. We made the most of holidays, but I spent the bulk of my childhood with my grandparents. Her parents held the space for her as best as they could, but I still craved my mother… and my father.

“Do you know how to ride a bike?”

“Nope. Can’t do that either.”

His head shook as he released a chuckle, but it wasn’t an amused one. He was irritated.

“Would you like me to teach you how to swim?”

“At the Tower. I don’t want to act a fool in front of our friends.”

Hosea chuckled. “Get your ass in this pool, Cartier.”

“Ah!” I squealed when he gripped my thighs. “Hosea! Don’t you pull me in this water. I will beat you up.”

Everyone laughed, but I was dead serious.

“Get in, Tink.”

“I can do it by myself.”

“Then do it.” Our eyes remained locked in challenge before I slowly got inside. “Do I have your permission to float you around so you can get comfortable in the water?”

I thought about it for a few seconds before agreeing with, “Yes, but don’t push me in the water.”
