“It was,” she answered. “How are you feeling?”

“I feel fine. In shock, but fine.” It was only a lie of omission. Although I felt fine physically, I was still unsettled whenever I thought about the vision I’d had and the decision I had to make about Lucian and Rumir.

“I was so worried. That vision knocked you out, Natalie. What did you see?”

“Nothing I can explain," I told her. "I'm not sure what I saw, so I’m going to let it percolate for a while. Besides, I have something else to worry about. I have two mates. I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

“If you were thinking of rejecting one of them, I wouldn’t recommend it.”

I frowned. “Why?”

“Well, a rejection can cause suicidal thoughts, right?”

“It can. For Enchanteds, it can be even harder since we’re so emotionally intuitive.”

At that moment, I realized that rejecting either man had to be the last resort. Although I saw myself as a strong woman, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to handle rejecting someone. It was always worse for the rejector than the rejectee. I had no desire to spend the rest of my eternity in abject misery.

I’d never met a mated Enchanted, but it was common knowledge that we developed strong emotional bonds with others easily. I had no doubt those bonds would be even greater with a mate. And though I knew a rejected mate bond between a wolf and an Enchanted would be more painful for an Enchanted because our physical strength wasn’t on par with normal wolves, I’d never thought much about the emotional damage, which could be even scarier. It often led wolves on Earth to lose control of their wolves and hurt themselves or others.

“You can’t die here, Natalie. If you die in the God Realm, you’ll cease to exist. It’s called a soul-death. So there is only one thing to do—you guys are going to have to find a way to make things work.”

“But what is Rumir?” I asked her. “He’s a hybrid, right? But he’s not even part werewolf. How can I be mated to him?”

She nodded. “He’s a god/dragon hybrid. Honestly, I’m just as confused as you are.”

“Yeah,” I drawled. “Well, I don’t know how I feel about this. It’s normal to mark a mate to seal the bond. It’s a beautiful thing, but it can be painful as well, especially if one wolf loses control. I was worried about Lucian. But what would it be like to be marked by someone like Rumir?”

My question hung in the air for a few minutes. Obviously, Rehema had no more answers than I did. I could feel a headache coming on.

I shook my head. “The pull I felt for him, it was real. Very real. But what happened after I passed out? Did they fight? The ball was ruined, wasn't it?”

Rehema adjusted her dress and turned onto her side. "Don't worry about the ball. It wasn't ruined. Zeus stopped them from murdering each other.”

So that was the god with the six horns—Zeus, the Greek King of the Gods.

“Everyone was concerned when you fainted. And it’s been a slow gossip week, even with the ball. So, although there is always random drama between gods or supernaturals, let's just say you should be prepared to hear your name on everyone's lips until something else pops up."

Great.

Saying I was embarrassed was an understatement. I was never someone who worried about being the center of attention, but last night was a bit much. There was no way people would quickly forget what had happened between Lucian and Rumir. And me getting knocked out by my vision only made the situation worse.

This would cause an uproar in the werewolf community.

On Earth, when we'd discovered that Ruby was mated to Xavier as well as Axel, it had to be kept a secret. We'd thought Ruby was just a human because her powers were sealed away by powerful blocks in her mind. At that time, the laws of our kind stated that any human who discovered the existence of werewolves would be sentenced to death in order to keep our world hidden and protected.

Now the Goddess had chosen me for round two of the double mate bonds, and to be honest, I didn't feel honored. This was a mess.

Wolves were going to start to wonder if this was going to become a common occurrence. Would there also be male wolves with two female mates? Could wolves now end up mated to other species?

“I have to warn you, Natalie, Lucian and Rumir loathe each other.”

I’d had the feeling that there was something between them before my vision had taken over, but there was too much going on for me to focus on just that.

But of course, there had to be something else that would make my life even more difficult. And why not? Between getting attacked by a night beast and being targeted by a deranged nymph, I seemed to be attracting everything negative about this realm.

“Why do they hate each other?” The sooner I knew, the better.

Rehema took a deep breath. “It’s because of the Goddess. Everyone knows that Rumir is jealous of Lucian because he thinks the Goddess loves him more."
