“Why not? Am I not good enough for you, wolf?”

Now he was drawing the attention of others. Like mine, Rehema's eyes darkened. “She’s not interested, nymph. Step away from our table.”

I stood up at the same time she did, but he made no move to leave.

I didn’t know what was happening. Rehema had told me there wasn’t really any violence in the God Realm. After all, who would commit a crime in a world where the gods lived casually among us?

So the dryad’s behavior surprised me, as well as everyone else, it appeared.

I'd thought creatures lived in peace in this realm, but what I was sensing from this dryad was open hostility. It was the middle of the day, and he didn’t seem drunk. But the guy was clearly deranged.

“Let’s just go,” I told Rehema, and turned to leave. But he grabbed my arm.

“I’m not done talking to you!”

My wolf howled with rage, and my eyes changed to white. I spun around and punched him in the throat.

He fell to his knee, coughing loudly as he clutched his throat.

“Don’t you ever touch me again!" I growled. My canines had extended, grazing my lips.

A scent I now knew all too well filled the café, and I turned around as Lucian walked in. He stood at the door, unmoving, his black eyes on the dryad still coughing on the ground. Most of the supernatural creatures and humans occupying the tables close to us immediately got up as Lucian stepped forward, his growl rumbling through the café.

A sudden chill filled the room.

He looked at me briefly as he stepped in front of me to face the dryad. My wolf whimpered with excitement. Even though I'd seen him just a few hours ago, I was struck anew by just how handsome he was. His hair was braided and hanging over his shoulder, and in the light of day, he was magnificent. But my attention soon turned to the dryad, who got to his feet, his face red and his eyes blazing with rage. Unlike everyone else in the cafe, Lucian's looming presence didn’t seem to faze him.

“I thought you said stuff like this doesn’t happen here,” I said to Rehema.

“I said that there aren’t many who are foolish enough to cause trouble with all the gods around." She looked perplexed. "I guess this man is the exception.”

“Walk away." Lucian's voice was low, his lips barely parting, but his words were clear for all to hear.

The moss on the dryad's skin began to move, his eyes revealing his intention to attack Lucian. But then something happened, something I hadn't seen coming.

Lucian lifted his left hand, his thumb holding his index finger, creating an ‘o’. He flicked his index finger as if swatting something and a strong energy blast sent the dryad flying backward, crashing into the wall. Several tables were thrown back by the force as well, hitting the dryad where he landed.

I stumbled back and was caught by Rehema, who'd obviously been expecting this.

What the hell?

The dryad stayed where he’d fallen on the ground, unconscious. I was speechless, and it seemed that everyone else was, as well. Lucian hadn’t moved an inch. I knew he was a white wolf and that he was more powerful than most wolves, but this was something I’d never seen before. He’d simply swatted the man away as if he was nothing.

Lucian tapped his bracelet and nodded to the satyr waitress. She hesitated but held her arm up, and then her bracelet beeped.

“That’s to pay for the repairs. Okay?”

She mumbled her thanks, as whispers suddenly erupted through the café. Lucian turned to face me and held his hand out. And while it took me a second to come back to the moment at hand, I finally slipped my hand into his and allowed him to guide me outside.
