She began walking around me. The closer she got to me, the more uneasy I grew. When she’d made a full circle and stood before me again, she was again the child version of herself.

“Kneel!”

Her voice thundered with the sound of all three stages of her life combined, one voice overlapping the other. I lost control of my body and fell to my knees as she’d commanded.

How dare she force something like this on me? I would’ve been happy to kneel if she’d asked nicely. No need to play the power card. Behind me, I heard Rumir and Lucian take a step forward. However, they stopped when Fate looked up at them.

I ground my teeth and took a breath.

"Someone tampered with your future, and it wasn't done by me," Fate said.

At last, she was finally getting to the point of this visit. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a clue what she was talking about. And I had enough on my plate to deal with now. I’d ask her if she was joking, but she didn’t seem like the type to waste time playing pranks.

"I'm sorry, but I don’t understand. Are you telling me someone changed my future? To what?"

She bent forward, her eyes glowing for a second. "I don't know."

Her words were spoken as a whisper, but they held great power. My body went rigid as that bad feeling I'd experienced before grew almost overwhelming.

What the hell did she mean she didn’t know?

A vein in my temple began to throb, and I turned to look at Lucian and Rumir, who both looked as confused as I felt.

"You don't know what my future is? I'm sorry, I'm not following this. Shouldn't you be able to see it and change it back? Who could have undone something you, the Goddess Fate, already did?"

Who would want to mess with my future? And why?

Her mouth turned down. "Let me put it this way. After your fight with that she-wolf, your future changed. Now I can no longer see it, and I can’t change what I can’t see."

What? My fight with the she-wolf had altered my future? How?

The throbbing in my head intensified.

Fate held up her hand, and a thin string like transparent silk appeared. Half of it was a vibrant blue, while the other half was solid black.

"I can't see your life past this very moment. This is the first time I've ever been unable to see a soul's future. I summoned you here because I wanted to know why. But so far, all I can tell is that it was changed by you.”
