“Lower your voice!” Fate yelled. Her voice thundered through the room, and her eyes glowed. “How dare you speak to me like that?”

“How dare you do this?” Lucian said, fog escaping his lips. A chill passed through the room. “Did the other gods approve of this little game of yours? You might be Fate, but you're still just a Supreme. Rumir might be a Dextura, but he's the son of an Executive and stands far above you. Did you really think it was wise to anger the Wolf Goddess by messing with her only son?”

Lucian's words packed a solid punch, and Fate's face twisted with anger.

I growled. “You did this solely out of pettiness.”

“Yes,” she answered, without hesitation or remorse. "There are only so many ways to rattle a god or goddess, but this is one of them. I’m not scared of your goddess. And though the other gods weren’t aware of this, don’t you think many will side with me? After all, she went against them and meddled with the vampire war.”

Rumir had fallen completely silent, and my hands trembled. I wanted to run to him, to reassure him that no matter what Fate said, I was his mate, but I couldn’t move. My body was suddenly becoming hot and rigid.

I was angry—angrier than I’d ever been in my life.

"You're all selfish, secretive, heartless creatures,” I growled, my eyes still on Rumir. "You gods treat souls here and on Earth like toys. We’re just playthings to you unless you need more power. Then we’re something to collect.” I took a deep breath, trying to calm my rage, but it didn’t help. “I know you all fight among yourselves, but to do something like this? This is just sadistic!" My pulse quickened, but instead of my wolf howling, she began to whimper.

I ignored it, driven by the ache in my chest for Rumir. I’d started to see a change in him; he wasn't as hotheaded as he’d been when we'd first met. He was getting better, easier to be around. But this… this would break him.

“You all deserve to suffer.” I raised my hand stiffly and gripped my blouse, trying to calm my heartbeat.

Rumir turned to face me, eyeing me up and down with concern. I felt like I would explode any minute, and I wanted more than anything to take Fate with me. I didn’t care if I died in the process.

“Was anything you said about my lifeline true?” I continued. “Or did you bring us here for your own twisted entertainment?" I looked down at my palms that were turning red as my temperature rose.

What was happening to me?

Voices began to echo through the room, but this time, they were deafening right off the bat. My hands flew to my ears as I fell to my knees, groaning, but they only grew louder.

“Taner!” I heard Fate yell, and the doors were pushed open.

I closed my eyes, my vision going in and out.

"Send for them. It's happening."

“Lucian!” I cried. “Rumir! Make it stop!”

“What’s happening to her?” Rumir yelled. “What have you done to her?”

There was concern in his voice, but something was different. He seemed distant. I could feel our mate bond straining. I looked up at him, and through his concern, I could see it—walls going up around him.

I turned to face Fate stiffly, my hands falling from my ears. “You did this.”

Lucian moved towards me, but Fate raised a hand. Suddenly, he and Rumir were both thrown back by a wave of power that pinned them against the door.

“Let them go,” I growled through clenched teeth, my entire body shaking. “I hate you! I hate all of you gods!”

Why? Why was I this angry?

I stood up, my wolf’s whimpers adding to the screaming voices in my head, and my eyes blurred. When my vision cleared, the world turned red, just as I'd seen in my vision. I could feel nothing but the overwhelming urge to kill Fate and everything else that got in my way.

All my pent-up frustrations, anger, and worries had rolled into one burning need. And it wanted out.

My body went still and the voices fell silent. My limbs went limp, and my lips parted as my fangs descended.

I wanted to taste death on my lips. I needed to.

Three circular barriers rose around me, each bursting into the air from the three circles on the ground, one barrier smaller than the other.

In the reflection of the first barrier, I saw myself. My eyes were as red as those of the infected animals and she-wolf I’d fought. And I didn’t care. My last ounce of control slipped away.

I pointed at Fate. “I’m going to kill you first.”
