Heldon turned away. "We'll just have to take that risk. Right now, more and more infected souls are appearing. We need to do everything we can." He looked over his shoulder. "After all, it’ll only be a matter of time before gods fall victim to this cursed disease. That will mean the end of all the realms."

Hekate, who’d had her hands out scanning Natalie, stepped back. "She's fine, only unconscious for now. When she wakes up, Rumir and Lucian, we'll explain everything. For now, though, she shouldn’t be moved. Fate will erect the barriers again just as a precaution, okay?"

I looked at Rumir, and he nodded.

“Okay,” I told her. “But we’re not leaving.”

Fate waved her hands, and multiple tables and chairs filled the room. "We know," she said. "But at least sit. We don't know how long it'll be before she wakes."

"What help are you all expecting from her in this state?" I asked, looking from one god to the next.

Hekate took a breath. “Natalie’s tenuous control over the virus might just be the key to putting an end to all of this,” Hekate answered. “Now that she has a connection to it, perhaps she’ll be able to lead us to the source.”
