Still, she’d had an even great purpose on Earth—she’d saved the world from the Vampire Queen

Elinor chewed her lip while eyeing the city's state. Then she nodded at Brian and yanked him in for a hug, holding him with all her strength.

“Be safe,” she said sternly. “Find Rehema and keep her safe,” she added as a beam of light fell on her and Will.

Brian nodded and hugged his father, then watched his parents' feet levitate off the ground.

"I love you both," he said. Will touched Brian's cheek.

They stared at each other, a father and son who loved each other, then Brian covered Will's hand with his. Beside me, Lucian placed his hand on my back, and I leaned into his touch. I wanted this. I wanted a family—with Lucian and Rumir.

Once again, I screamed Rumir’s name through our bond, but there was no answer. I bit down on my lip, my body shaking.

“We love you,” Elinor and Will said, just before they were pulled into the air. But Will’s final words echoed down to us. "We're proud of you!"

I exhaled, seeing Brian's fists relax at his side. I could feel his overwhelming love for his parents, and though they’d disappeared, their love for him still filled the air. I turned to the Goddess, who’d turned away from Elinor and Will's departure. Was she thinking of Rumir?

Suddenly, she vanished, as did Zeus. They now had the freedom to deal with the infected souls and gods without worrying about anyone else being infected.

Wherever the uninfected souls had been sent, hopefully they’d be okay until this war came to an end. I didn’t doubt Hekate would give her all to protect them.

But we still had a major problem. Now that the gods were being infected, we were losing more and more allies. And Cedric’s army was growing, with gods who already had power.

Ice poured from Lucian's hands, the fight commenced again, and this time, I joined in. Closing my eyes, I tried to remember how I’d teleported at Cedric’s castle while fighting the green dragon.

I visualized moving from where I was standing, to closer to the infected souls encased in Lucian’s iceberg. My entire being started trembling, and the world around me contorted in a burst of red mist. My chaos slipped down my hand like water would cascade down my body to form a blade. I teleported, appearing in front of the iceberg, and my blade sliced through it, breaking it apart and killing the infected souls inside it.

I did that again and again, attacking gods and souls, the blade on my arm cutting through flesh and bone.

I stopped for a second and watched as the virus continued to spread through the city. Although we were handling the infected souls, what were we going to do about the towers made of chaos? At this rate, the city was going to be inhabitable.

Doing what I never thought I could was becoming my trademark, so I let my imagination dream up a possible plan of attack. Although the virus was now like a hunting beast, I could still feel it. I could still sense the chaos in it that made it what it was. And just like that, a plan came to me, the only strategy I saw that could end this battle.

But Lucian was going to be so pissed.
