I turned to the Goddess, and she shook her head. I wasn’t surprised she could tell what I was going to do.

“Don’t,” she said.

I smiled apologetically. “I’m sorry,” I told her. “But I have to do something.”

“Natalie,” Rumir called when I stepped off the edge.

Levitating in the air, I made a barrier that closed off the cave's entrance, and Lucian rushed forward and slammed into it. He knew what was coming, and his panic tore through me worse than anything Cedric had ever done.

“Don’t! Do not sacrifice yourself!" he shouted.

Behind me, Cedric roared, tearing through my power.

I didn't have time to make a speech and profess my love for Rumir and Lucian or to tell them how sorry I was that they'd have to watch what would happen next. Although I could absorb chaos, too much of it would kill me. I’d known it was likely that I'd die at the end of this war, and here we were. But I wasn't throwing in the towel. I had a plan and I hoped to live through it. But if I didn't, I'd be taking Cedric with me.

“I love you,” I told Rumir and Lucian. “So much.”

“What are you doing, Natalie! Drop the barrier!” Rumir slammed his fist against it, and I started to descend. "Natalie!"

“I’m sorry. I'm so sorry. But I can't let Cedric do this."

Then I dove toward the dragons.

The sound of Rumir and Lucian calling my name was all I heard as I reached out to the dragons. I was going to absorb all the chaos they’d just injected into themselves.

While the pain in Rumir’s and Lucian’s voices made my limbs stiff, and my mate bond to them was trying to force me to turn back, I couldn't.

If I didn’t do this, they’d die.

I took hold of the chaos in the dragons before it could take root and pulled it out. It rose up to meet me, creating a ball that kept getting bigger.

“I’m going to rip you apart! You hear me!” Cedric roared, and I held my hand out to him.

I took in some of the chaos I was gathering and used it to add another layer to the cage he was slowly breaking out of. I felt like I was being ripped in two, containing him while removing the virus from these poor, brainwashed men and women.

When I looked down, I saw that a dragon was seconds away from colliding with me…when he was struck by lightning.

Zeus appeared out of nowhere, charging toward the dragons. And more gods arrived, like Heldon and many I didn't know, giving me the chance I needed.

I focused on the last remaining dragons. The virus had already settled in them, but I yanked it out. The ball of chaos before me was like a red sun, the energy emitting from it keeping all the gods at bay. But they focused on the dragons that were pissed off and transforming.

They had been robbed of the power promised to them. And, like Cedric, they wanted me dead.

“You’ll die, Natalie. Please don’t do this,” Rumir pleaded in my mind. “You can’t handle so much chaos!”

"Trust me, Rumir, I have a plan. I just need you to trust me.”

The ball began to compress, getting smaller and smaller.

When Cedric broke free, several gods attacked him and were killed, but I focused on the chaos until it was a red diamond floating in the air.

“Natalie!” Cedric roared, shifting into a terrifying black dragon.

“Natalie!” Rumir and Lucian yelled in unison, and I gasped, my breath sucked away as the red gem embedded itself in my chest.
