The baby had white hair, like me, and blue eyes, although they were much lighter than mine. But her eyes changed when Lucian and Rumir peeked over at her. The whites of her eyes turned black, like Lucian’s, and the blue turned green like Rumir’s.

Both men reached out and laid a hand on the other's shoulder, and I held my head back, exhausted.

“She’s so quiet,” Rehema whispered while Eir's magic washed over me, and I regained some strength. “Did you guys see those eyes just now?”

Yelena’s hands were clutched at her chest while Armen hugged her, and Morana and Hekate drew closer.

“Can you feel it?” Hekate asked Morana, who nodded.

“Yes, she has chaos in her,” Morana replied as I held my daughter close.

This child was so extraordinary. I gazed at her with so much love, it was a burning ache in my chest. Just then, Fate teleported into the room, drawing everyone's attention. She looked troubled, and I struggled to sit up.

“Fate?” I looked at Lucian and Rumir with worry. “What’s wrong?”

"Congratulations," she murmured. "This child is the first of her kind, and just like Ruby's twins, she will create a new era for all realms—an era I can't yet see."

Fate blinked rapidly as if she'd been in a trance and Morana took her hand. "Calm down, or you're going to faint. That's some heavy stuff, so your new era will have to wait a while, okay?"

Everyone laughed, and a tense situation turned into a lighthearted one. Fate couldn't be blamed for freaking us out, because she was doing what the Goddess of Destiny was meant to. Still, I wouldn't forget what she said anytime soon, and Lucian and Rumir didn’t look amused.

“We’ve got this,” I told them telepathically. “No matter what, we’ve got this. She has us to protect her and everyone in this room would die for her.”

The baby cooed quietly, and everyone huddled around the bed to look at her. I couldn't believe I had given birth to such a perfect child.

“What are you going to name her?” Hekate asked.

I smiled at Morana. "Megumi," I answered. “Megumi of house Wolfborn and Fafnir.”

Lucian and I planned on creating our own pack, the Wolfborn pack, and Rumir was a descendant of the Fafnir house, the most powerful dragon bloodline.

“Thank you…” Morana’s voice shook, and she excused herself. Everyone followed, leaving Lucian and Rumir to stay with me and their new daughter.

They climbed onto the bed on either side of me, and Megumi's eyes fluttered closed. Considering how rough my pregnancy had been, she was such a quiet baby. Of course, an hour hadn't passed yet, so we'd see how long this lasted.

“Do we need to worry about what Fate said?” Rumir whispered. “Could you peek into her mind, Natalie. Maybe you’ll see what she saw.”

I shook my head. "No. Whatever the future has in store for all of us, we'll face it together. Prying into the future won't change anything, but it will control the present. I don't want to live my life worrying. And I don't want Megumi doing it, either." I narrowed my eyes, and looked at each of them. “And…I don’t want anyone to repeat what Fate said around her,” I added. “Ever.”

Lucian reached out and moved Megumi’s hair back from her forehead. She had so much hair for a newborn.

“I want her to know she’s loved—that's it," I sighed.

Rumir kissed my temple. "I'm in awe of you, you know that, right? I love you so much."

“You better,” I grumbled. “Or next time you’re having the baby.”

Lucian chuckled. “He wouldn’t be able to handle it.”

“Speak for yourself,” Rumir shot back, and Megumi's eyes opened.

Rumir reached over to touch her, and she grabbed his finger, and stared at Lucian. Her eyes fluttered sleepily until she was out again, and I rested my head back against the headboard.

“She already knows her fathers,” I said sleepily. “That’s nice.”

“We’ll get Yelena so she can help you get cleaned up.” Lucian slipped off the bed.

“You need to rest.” Rumir got up as well, but before I could say anything, they both leaned over, and one kissed my cheek while the other kissed my temple.

“We love you,” Rumir whispered. “You’ve given me all I’ve ever wanted.”

“And all I thought I didn’t deserve,” Lucian added.

I couldn't speak, because I was on the verge of crying again, and Yelena returned. But I didn't let her take Megumi from me. I held my child as she slept and told Yelena I'd get cleaned up soon. Right now, I wanted to be with my daughter.

My new beginning.
