I was about to tell her but thought against it. "It's not my place to say."

"So, you know something that I don't. Spill it, Byron, what's going on?"

I was honestly surprised that Pierce never told Whitney about Rosie having the Wolf Moon's gift. I thought for sure he'd confide in her about why he was determined to have Rosie, but maybe he didn't trust her with that information. Pierce never told me about it either, I learned about it from Sabina. What exactly was the Wolf Moon's gift? What kind of power were we dealing with?

I said to Whitney, "If Pierce didn't tell you about it, then that means he doesn't want you to know about it."

She scowled. "Fine. If you won't tell me about it, then I'll have to ask Pierce myself."

She turned and was making her way into the lodge, but I called out to her. "Pierce is in the middle of a meeting. He doesn't want to be disturbed."

"He'll open the door to me," Whitney fired back. "He always does."

I rushed after her stepping inside the lodge and putting myself in between her and Pierce's office door.

Whitney glared at me. "Get out of my way, Byron."

"No," I growled. "I told you that Pierce doesn't wish to be disturbed."

"And I said I'm going to see him anyway."

"And I won't let you," I argued, getting fed up with her.

Whitney tried push passed me to get to Pierce's door, but I shoved her back easily. She stumbled slightly but managed to keep herself upright. The look she gave me was venomous. "Get out of my way, Byron."

"No. You will not bother Pierce, and youwillfollow my orders or else I will throw you out, now." My wolf moved closer to the borderline, baring his teeth and ready to rip out her throat if she continued to defy direct orders.

"I've had it with you telling me what to do!" Whitney shouted and foolishly charged at me. She made to swipe at me, but I leaned back to avoid the ends of her shifted claws. I gripped her by the wrist when she went for another scratch and bent it at an odd angle. Whitney dropped to her knees crying out in pain as I continued twisting her wrist. I could break it as punishment for attacking me.

Just as I was about to, the door to Pierce's door opened, and out walked our alpha. "What the hell is going on out here?" he demanded, his alpha aura exuding to the surface.

"I told Whitney that you didn't want to be disturbed, but she wouldn't listen. Then she attacked me," I stated my case.

"He wouldn't let me see you," Whitney said with a wince while I still had a firm grip on her wrist.

"That means he was doing his job, Whitney," Pierce retorted matter-of-factly.

Another man stepped out of Pierce's office to see what all the commotion was about. The one who identified himself as Mordred. He was dressed head-to-toe in black with a long overcoat that billowed when he walked, but even through all the layer of clothing I could see how built he was. His hair was cut short and pale moon-white that matched his alabaster skin tone, and amethyst-colored eyes. Probably his most defining feature was the crescent moon shaped mark on his forehead. It was pitch-black and curved up in a U-shape. The scent of wood and herbs alerted me of magic, but there was something unsettling about it. About him.

"Byron, release her," Pierce ordered, and I obeyed.

Whitney pulled herself to her feet, rubbing her bruised wristed and pleaded to Pierce with her eyes. "Pierce, what is going on? I have a right to know what you're doing, don't I, honey?"

"You have a right to nothing except following orders," Pierce barked out, the alpha aura intensifying to the point it was suffocating. "And if you call me honey again, or attack my lead beta again, I will kill you myself. Is that understood?"

"Yes, Alpha," she said meekly, her head hanging in shame.

"Pierce," Mordred spoke up. "Who are these two?"

"They're my most loyal betas," Pierce answered, then glared in Whitney's direction and adding, "At least they better be in the future."

"Are these two potential candidates for our army?" Mordred asked.

Candidates? Army?

What was Mordred talking about?

"Possibly," Pierce said.
