"If that's the case, let them listen in. They might as well know our plans and about the power that we may be able to grant them for their loyalties."

"As you wish, Master Mordred." Pierce bowed, then ushered for Whitney and I to enter his office with him and Mordred.

Wait, did he refer to Mordred as master?

I cautiously stepped inside with Whitney beside me. Once the door closed behind us, Pierce returned to his seat while Mordred stood off to the side, arms crossed over his chest as his eyes were glued to us. I really had a bad feeling about him.

"What's this about Pierce?" Whitney asked.

"It's about the Wolf Moon's gift inside of Rosalinda Mendoza," Pierce stated. "And how we'll be taking it from her."

"The what?"

"You've never heard of the Tale of the Wolf Moon as a pup?" I asked her.

Whitney rolled her eyes. "Of course not. I don't do fairytales."

"It's more than just a fairytale," Mordred bellowed. "It's a real power, one that will create the strongest wolf pack alive."

So, everything Sabina warned me about so far was true. The Wolf Moon's gift was real, and if Pierce and Mordred were planning on forming an army, then there really would be a war in our future. Whatever this gift was had to be one hell of a power boost to go through the trouble of making Rosie submit to Pierce.

"What's so special about this gift, anyway?" Whitney asked.

Pierce explained, "The Wolf Moon's Gift is an ancient power forged by Mother Moon herself. It is said to have the power to tap into a wolf shifter's true potential and make them stronger beyond imagination. They'll never have to submit to another alpha again, and their strength will far exceed any other shifter in existence."

"And this is the power that Rosie possesses?" I asked.

"Not exactly." Mordred was the one who answered. "The Wolf Moon's chosen is merely a conductor, the one who has the ability to choose whom to give the powers to. And while a shifter with the Wolf Moon's gift will be granted full immunity of submission, they all still bow to her. Just as all shifters can and will submit to her if she learns how to control the Wolf Moon's gift. Rosie has the power to become the alpha of all shifters."

Now it made sense why Pierce was trying to get Rosie to mate with him by any means necessary. If she bonded with him, then Pierce could have Rosie use the power of the Wolf Moon's gift to make any shifter do their bidding, whether they want to or not. In addition, he'd be able to give his and Mordred's army the strength to overpower any pack who goes against them. This was world domination, plain and simple.

Think of it this way, Byron, the choices you make can help decide whether Rosie succeeds, or if Pierce gets what he wants.

But why did Sabina think my choice was the deciding factor in whether Pierce succeeded or not? What was my role in this? How could any decision I make tilt the scale of this impending war?

"That's why you want to bond with Rosie, isn't it? So Rosie will be able to give you the power to command an army of superpowered shifters," Whitney stated, seeming to put the puzzle pieces together.

I thought she had the full picture displayed in front of her, but Pierce's shake of his head told us otherwise. "That was the original goal, but now my plans have changed."

"What do you mean?" I asked, sounding baffled. He wasn't going to mate with Rosie anymore? Did I miss something?

Pierce looked in Mordred's direction as he answered. "That's what the conversation we were having today was about. It appears there's a way I can strip all of Rosie's powers and keep it for myself without the means of bonding with my fated mate."

"What way is that?" I asked, mentally alarmed. The whole purpose of this was so Pierce could mate with Rosie, but now that wasn't the case.

"The Wolf Moon's gift can be extracted from its chosen by death," Mordred revealed. "If Pierce kills Rosie, the Wolf Moon's gift inside her will transfer into Pierce and he'll be the new chosen one of the Wolf Moon. Pierce will be able to grant anybody he chooses the power of the Wolf Moon and create the strongest wolf pack in your generation."

My heart skipped a beat at the mention of death. Pierce was planning to kill Rosie, his fated mate, for the power inside her. No, no that couldn't be right.

"You're planning to kill Rosie?" I asked my alpha, not wanting to believe he'd stoop so low as to murder the woman the fates deemed to be his soulmate. "But Alpha Pierce, she's fated to be your mate."

"Rosie officially rejected me as her fated mate, remember?" Pierce responded. "She lost all rights to be my mate after that. Besides, I never wanted to have her for a mate. My only interest was the Wolf Moon's gift inside her. Now that I know I can have it without needing to be her mate, my plans have shifted slightly."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I never would’ve imagined I'd see the day where someone would deliberately kill their fated mate in cold blood. Fated mates were meant to be cherished, to be loved, to be protected at all costs. Pierce was planning the opposite. He was going against everything we were taught about fate and our destined fated mates. This couldn't be what Fate wanted, they'd never allow something like this, right?

What Pierce is doing is wrong, and I know you know, in your heart, that you agree with me.

Joaquin was right, what Pierce was doing was wrong. And worse, I believe he knew it was wrong, but he was going to do it anyway.
