"You feel it," Roxanne stated matter-of-factly.

"I do."

"Then let's keep moving." Roxanne and I walked side by side, moving forward then turning right, then left, forward, then right again. I walked with confidence knowing the Wolf Moon's gift was my guide. It was being pulled like a magnet, the itching evolving into a dull ache.

"Is it supposed to hurt?" I asked, slightly wincing.

"It might be because your gift hasn't fully matured yet. Once its full strength awakens on the night of the Wolf Moon, it may not hurt as much," Roxanne said.

"How comforting," I muttered. "How old were you when you found out you were chosen by the Pink Moon?"

"I was ten, but even before then I knew something had to be different about me. The other witches of my former coven used to look at me with contempt and fear. They thought of me as a monster because of my ability."

"That's terrible." I gasped. "Having the Pink Moon's gift doesn't make you a monster."

The corner of Roxanne's lips curved up. "Thank you, but I'm sure you know full well people will always judge what they can't understand. My magic is powerful, dangerous, forbidden. No other witch in the world can do what I can do with the human mind, and that terrifies them. They think I will one day brainwash them into doing my bidding or murder them all."

"You wouldn't do that!" I barely knew her, but a part of me knew for sure Roxanne would never do something like that. Mother Moon wouldn't have chosen someone who would use her gift to serve some malicious deed, at least I thought she wouldn't.

"You're right, I wouldn't," Roxanne confirmed. "But it doesn't matter if I would or not. They assume I will regardless, which was why they tried limiting my knowledge of magic as much as possible."

"They didn't want you to learn and grow stronger,"

"Correct. What they didn't expect was me learning on my own. I'd swipe books from the coven library and would read from cover to cover. If nobody would teach me then I would have to learn myself."

"Was it hard to learn by yourself?"

"In the beginning it was, but that's with anything new. The only difference is you need to be able to use magic in order to learn it. But once you get the hang of the basics, it becomes a little easier. Some spells are harder to learn than others, and the more advanced spells drain the body faster than basic ones."

The more we talked, the more I found myself lost in her words. Roxanne was the most interesting person I met, and it was nice to learn about witches and magic for the first time. If it wasn't for the growing burn sensation in the center of my forehead where my mark would've been, I would've forgotten what we were doing out here. I wanted to learn everything there was to know about magic. I knew I'd likely never be able to use it, but after spending most of my life with shifters and humans, it was nice to meet someone different.

"I'm sorry, I hope I'm not boring you," Roxanne said with a slight laugh.

"Not at all," I quickly assured her. "I'm actually enjoying our conversation. I love learning about witches and magic."

"Same for us back here." I whipped my head back at the sound of Raph's voice, shamefully forgetting it wasn't just the two of us. As if sensing my embarrassment, Kao jogged closer to me then wrapped an arm around me to pull me closer to his side. He kissed the top of my head as I melted into him.

"It is interesting to know what life is like for witches. You're the first one any of us have met before," Kao said.

Roxanne shrugged. "I'm not surprised. Shifters and witches don't exactly have the best relationship with one another."

"I've been wondering about that," Javier spoke up. "Do you know why that is? As pups we weren't told much about what severed the relationship between shifters and witches."

"That's because it was made into a law by both species that any discussion pertaining to the night when it all went to shit was expressly prohibited, but yes, I do know what happened."

"I guess that means you won't be able to tell us," Caleb said, sounding disappointed. He wasn't the only one. A part of me really wanted to know about it now.

"I didn't say that," Roxanne said cheekily. "It may be a rule, but I'm not much of a rule follower to begin with. Besides, Rosie and I are like sisters, bound together by Mother Moon's gifts, so why not share it."

I beamed at that, not having considered that Roxanne and I were sisters in a way. I wasn't against it, because as she said, we have a bond separate from the bonds I have with my family, friends, and mates. This was something different, and even more special.

"So, what happened?" Kao asked.

"Well, did you guys know that Selene created a bond between witches and shifters that was equally magnetic to a fated mate bond?" Roxanne asked.

We all paused in our movements, wide-eyed in shock. Roxanne looked at all our stunned expressions with raised eyebrows. "I'll take that as a no."

"What kind of bond is it?" Raph asked.
