"With any luck, we can try and reason with them. But if it comes to it, we'll do whatever it takes to defend our home and the people who live here."

"But if they come with us, who's going to watch the pack? Someone should be here to look after the place," Kai said.

He had a point. "Call someone to keep watch over the lodge. Tell them you're in pursuit of us after we escaped. With any luck we'll be back before a massacre takes place and tell the rest of the pack the truth."

Accepting my orders, Thomas rushed inside to make the call while I ushered Kai into my car with Joaquin. Both sat in the back seat, Kai buckling Joaquin in first, then himself. Del went to her bike. I was about to get in when Del called for me.

"What is it?" I asked.

Del handed me a syringe with a strange liquid inside it. "If it's wolfsbane that's poisoning him, give him this. It should help combat it. I’ve used Wolfsbane gas before, so I also keep antidotes with me just in case."

I held the syringe like it was the most valuable treasure in the world. "Thank you," I said.

When Thomas ran back outside letting me know someone was on their way, he shifted back to his wolf form, ready to go. I quickly got into my car and started the engine. I took off down the road, the betas following behind until we reached the town where they hid behind the buildings so nobody could spot them. Right as we left Kingrsose, they showed themselves following behind my car in full pursuit as if really trying to apprehend us. Looking into my rearview mirror, I saw Kai inject the antidote into Joaquin, praying that it was enough to help him.

The worst part of this was over, but now I hope we weren't too late to save Rosie and Kao from Whitney's wrath.

Carly, I hope I'm doing the right thing.

ROSIE

"Are you the one who was chosen by the Wolf Moon?" the older man, the man who was a werewolf tearing into ordinary shifters moments ago, asked me.

I gulped, slightly scared but also curious about how he had Wolf Moon's gift himself. "Um... yeah?"

Kao put himself in front of me as if he could take this guy on by himself if the man decided to attack. Clearly, he didn't know how he was able to snap wolves like twigs with ease, otherwise he wouldn't be so bold. Or maybe he still would be.

Instead of attacking, the man knelt on one knee and tilted his head to the side, exposing his neck to me in submission. "Then it is an honor to be at your command, Queen of Wolves."

Wait, hold the fuck up, what did he call me? "Queen of Wolves?"

"Yes, milady. That is what you are, or rather, what you're destined to become. The queen of all wolf shifters."

Everyone who wasn't the werewolf looked like a deer caught in headlights, me included. What in the hell made this guy think I was a queen of anything? Did this have something to do with the Wolf Moon's gift? I assumed so, but if that was the case, then he had answers about the gift that I desperately needed.

"Rowan," a woman's voice called from the mouth of the clearing. It sounded familiar, but I didn't have to wait too long to find out why. When the woman in question stepped through and made herself known, I gasped at the familiar face.

Sabina.

"She doesn't know anything about the Wolf Moon's gift or her title. Why don't we bring her back to the cabin so you can explain it to her," Sabina said, then smiled at me like her showing up out of the blue was nothing. "Hey, Rosie. Kao. Nice to see you finally made it here."

"Sabina, wha—how—" I stammered to find the right words, not knowing what to ask first.

"I'll explain everything back at the cabin. Come on, I'm sure you're all worn out from your long trip."

"This can't be real, right? Am I dreaming?" Kao asked me.

"If you are, then we must be sharing the same dream," I said.

Doing the only thing that made sense, Roxanne, Javier, Caleb, Raph, Kao and I followed her. The older man, Rowan, walked beside me as if it was his life's goal to be at my side. He couldn't be my missing mate, could he? My wolf seemed interested in Rowan, but maybe that had to do with the knowledge he could share with us about this gift and the responsibility that fell onto my lap.

The cabin in question wasn't far from where the Moon Dial laid. My guess was it was intentional. Rowan must've been living here to guard the Moon Dial from intruders, which was why he came to our rescue when we were being attacked. Who were those wolves, anyway?

"Kao, do you know if the wolves who attacked us were from Kingsrose?" I whispered to him.

Kao shook his head."I don't think so. I didn't recognize their scent."

"Likely rogue wolf shifters," Rowan spoke up. "Every now and then, a couple of rogues would stumble onto the land hoping to find the Moon Dial and its secrets."
