My arms looped around his neck, my eyes hooded as I panted with every thrust of his cock. It was feral and needy, and I loved it.

"That's it, baby! Fuck me with that big cock of yours," I breathed out.

"I'm close," Joaquin said through gritted teeth, his hips moving faster. My own orgasm started building, bringing me closer to the edge.

My legs felt heavy when I tried lifting them, but I still managed to bring them back around his waist, wanting to make sure he stayed inside me. Wanting to keep him close. I reached up and bit down on the crook of his neck at the exact same spot I marked him. I felt Joaquin curse before he shoved himself all the way inside me and cried out when he came. His orgasm exploded deep into my channel, filling me to the brim while I felt his blood filling my mouth. As I drank the metallic taste down my throat, my body drank in his seed with every stream that erupted from him. My own orgasm followed suit, my body a convulsing mess as I let go, and succumb to the pleasure.

Before I lost all feeling in our body, Joaquin rolled us back to where I was now laying on top of him. His cock still buried inside me, exactly where I wanted it. My head rested against his chest, pressing a soft kiss to his sweat-covered skin. He hands went to my hair, his fingers running along my dark locks. It felt as good as our first time, maybe even better. Yeah, definitely better. Exhaustion threatened to pull me to sleep, but I wanted to bask in his moment a bit longer. Because once we woke the next morning, I knew it'd be back to business.

"It's okay," Joaquin said softly as he placed a kiss on top of my head, reading my thoughts through our mated bond. "Like you said before, we have the rest of our lives to enjoy ourselves. For now, we do what we have to do. Then, it'll be us forever."

Us. Him, me, Kai, Kao, and whoever my fourth would be. All of us together. That was what I wanted, and that was what I clung to as Joaquin's gentle fingers lulled me to sleep.

KAO

"All right, Kao, come at me," Raph hedged, giving me the come at me, bro hand gesture.

After the hassle with Kai's dark side, his Berserker Wolf as we now call it, it felt it was necessary to continue my training. Raph was more than willing to continue helping me. A few of the betas decided to join in, each of them pairing up to spar. Kai watched from a corner of the patio, curled up and trying to hide from the many eyes on him. The betas were understandably weary of him given what they'd witnessed yesterday, but none of them brought it up with him or me. Maybe it had to do with Byron standing guard by the steps, watching everyone's training with intense eyes. I still couldn't believe he joined us. I used to give him shit for being one of Pierce's fuck boys, knowing he was always following his alpha like the loyal dog he was. Now here he was, a member of our pack, and was willing to help us stop the alpha he used to follow without hesitation.

"Kao," Raph's voice broke me from my wandering thoughts. Focusing back on the man in front of me, I charged at him with the fury of a bull who noticed his fiery red hair and went crazy. Raph shifted more to his right side, ready to counter my approach. When he thrust his palm forward, I slid on the ground beneath it, jumping back to my feet behind him and throwing a punch. Seeing the move coming, Raph swiftly turned and threw his arm up to block my hit. He then threw his palm forward again, this time landing a hit to the center of my chest. I let out anoomphas I was pushed back, staggering to stay on my feet while trying to catch the breath that was knocked out of me.

"If you'd have paid better attention, you would've seen that one coming. Always anticipate a counterattack and plan for it," Raph lectured. "Your movements are improving as well as your connection to your wolf, but you still struggle to think on the fly and predicting your opponent's moves."

I cursed under my breath, rubbing the spot where he struck, knowing there'd be a bruise later. Oh well, it'd heal in a minute. I was grateful that he felt I was getting better, but I needed a lot more improvements if I ever hoped to put up a fight against someone like Pierce. I had to assume he was also working on getting stronger, or that his pack were. We couldn't afford to slack off.

"Let me try," Bryon said, stepping over to where Raph and I were working. Raph accepted and stepped out of the way, letting Byron face me.

Wait, Byron wanted to fight me? I hadn't expected that. He used to spar with me a couple of times back when I was training to be a beta, but he always believed I wasn't good enough. When I was finally able to hold my own against someone like Whitney, Byron finally acknowledged that I could have real potential if I took my training seriously enough. That felt like a lifetime ago.

Not bothering to say anything, we both got into our fight stance. I breathed in deeply, letting it out slowly, then coaxed my wolf to join me. I gave him enough leverage to where my eyes and claws shifted over. My sight turned black and white, but sharper than my human eyes. When he didn't move, I decided to go first. I charged for him, claws at the ready. When I was close enough, I jumped and made to slash at his face. Bryon ducked down, avoiding the pointed tips of my claws. He then shot a fist forward, but I saw it coming. Crossing my arms forward, they took the blow rather than my face, knocking me back, but I flipped back to my feet. There was a look of astonishment on the man's face, but it quickly vanished.

I ran for him again, this time bringing my claw up and swinging down. Byron jumped back enough to avoid it, but I predicted that was what he was going to do. Using the movement of my scratch, I whipped around and brought my elbow up to deck him in the face. Byron brought his hands up to grab my elbow before it made contact, but he didn't see my kick following behind until it struck his left side. Byron grunted and stumbled back. I righted myself, smirking like the cat that caught the canary, proud that I managed to land a hit.

Rubbing his side, Byron regarded me with a sense of pride that had me feeling weightless. "You have improved. Usually, I have to get on your ass about slacking off or getting distracted by girls while training. Now look at you."

I didn't know why, but hearing his praise had my stomach in knots. "I'm not the same man you knew."

"No, you're not," he agreed. "I'm proud of you, Kao."

That was it, he was proud of me. I never realized how much I wished I had someone say that to me. I never had anyone say they were proud of me in my whole life. Whereas Kai had a soft spot for Joaquin, I never occurred to me how much I looked up to Byron as a mentor. Yes, I gave him shit for kissing up to Pierce, but to me, Byron was everything I wanted to be as a beta. Someone strong, confident, and wise, but who was also kind and caring. Those last two were what was missing from Pierce, which was why I never admired him as an alpha. But Byron and Joaquin? They were what I always expected an alpha to be. They were the ones who carried the pack, if I were being honest. All Pierce did was bring fear to the pack. Everyone was afraid of him, but they didn't respect him. Except Byron and Whitney, both for different reasons. Having someone I respected tell me he was proud, filled me with pride. I felt like I truly accomplished something. It made me hope that I could finally start accepting myself as worthy to carry the Wolf Moon's gift Rosie had entrusted me with.

I knew she felt I was worthy, but it wasn't the same as me feeling it for myself. To me, I was given the power without doing anything to earn it. I couldn't even defend my brother when Pierce almost killed him. How could I believe I was deserving of such a gift when I failed to protect my twin over and over? Bryon was right, I slacked off during training, and because I didn't take it seriously, I was letting the people I wanted to protect down. But now, things were different. Now I was more than prepared to train my ass off and prove to myself that I deserved to stand at my mate's side.

"Kao has been working hard," Raph said, patting Byron on the shoulder. "He's an excellent listener and is quick to fix his mistakes when it's pointed out to him."

Byron reeled back as if Raph had slapped him, then looked at me like I spouted two heads. "You? An excellent listener? Who are you, and what have you done with the real Kao?"

I scowled. "You're not funny."

"He's not wrong though," one of the betas called out. It was then I noticed that everyone stopped sparring and was crowding around us.

Another beta laughed as he said, "Yeah. Remember when he stared blankly at Byron for a solid two minutes, and couldn't relay back anything he said to him?"

"Or that time he took off training early because he heard some waitress from his brother's work was interested in him."

One by one, my former comrades continued embarrassing me with stories of my past. The more they talked, the more my face heated with embarrassment. Oh well, I knew it was all in good fun, and at least Rosie wasn't around to hear any of it.
